Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Had a problem scanning and HP Scan Doc did a hard shutdown.  On restart I received a message on the printer "Cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP instant ink".  I selected the only option which was "hide".  The the printer progressed to "print an alignment page" and then just stays there.  Obviously it is not online but I can't leave the "Print an alignment page" to set up the internet. If it cant get to internet to check my HP Ink account which is current, the printer won't print using the HP ink cartridges.

Hi @TKE70,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I hear your concern about how this must feel  especially when your printer locks you into an alignment page loop and won’t let you move forward to reconnect to the internet.

Could you please share the exact printer model ?  Also, let me know if the printer is connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and whether you’re using Windows, macOS, or mobile to manage it.

Here are a few steps you can try right away:

Power reset: Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord from both the printer and wall outlet, wait at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and restart. This often clears stuck alignment loops.

Cancel alignment: If the alignment page keeps appearing, try pressing the cancel/stop button on the printer panel. On some models, you can bypass alignment by holding down the cancel button for a few seconds.

Reconnect Wi-Fi: Once the printer is responsive, go into the printer’s settings menu → Network/Wireless Setup Wizard → reconnect to your Wi-Fi. This will allow the printer to verify your HP Instant Ink subscription.

Update firmware: Outdated firmware can sometimes cause Instant Ink enrollment errors. If possible, check for updates via the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app.

HP Smart app: If the printer won’t let you proceed, try setting it up again through the HP Smart app on your computer or phone. The app can often override stuck prompts and re-establish the internet connection.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
