My printer is connected to my computer via a USB port. MY PC is hooked up to the internet. Printing works OK but HP Smart AP says that I am NOT connected to the internet.

Hi @MICKEY79

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details. Printing is working fine through USB, but the HP App is showing that the printer is not connected to the internet.

Let’s go through the recommended steps to ensure the app recognizes the connection correctly:

Confirm Internet Access on PC

  • Open a browser on your computer and check if you can load a webpage. This verifies that your PC is online.

Check HP App Version

  • Make sure you are using the latest version of the HP App. Open the Microsoft Store (Windows) or App Store (Mac) and update if needed.

Reconnect the Printer in HP App

  • Open the HP App.
  • Select your printer from the home screen.
  • If the app shows “Not connected,” remove the printer from the app and add it again.
  • Choose USB connection when prompted.

Verify Printer Status in HP App

  • Once re-added, check if the printer shows as connected.
  • If the app still indicates “Not connected to the internet,” note that this message refers to the printer itself, not your PC. Since the printer is on USB, it does not have a direct internet connection. The HP App may display this status even though printing works.

Run Diagnose & Fix

  • In the HP App, go to Support.
  • Select Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions. This tool will automatically check the connection and correct any app-related issues.

By following these steps, the HP App should correctly reflect your setup. Since your printer is connected via USB, printing will continue to work reliably, and the Diagnose & Fix tool ensures the app stays synchronized with your PC’s internet connection.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
