HP DeskJet 4155e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I’m in HP Smart trying to connect an HP Deskjet 4155e printer to wi-fi on an ATT Allfi hub after being on a modem/router wi-fi.

- The modem and router are unplugged.

- My laptop, phone, and TV are all connected.

- When I try to connect the printer, I get “Incorrect password” both entering it manually (yes, it’s correct) and using the “Access my Wi-FI password automatically” option (can’t swear it’s correct but it has the right number of dots).

- I’ve reset just the printer and also power cycled hub, laptop, and printer all together.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

@cherring7, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating that your HP DeskJet 4155e is giving you an “Incorrect password” error when trying to connect to your AT&T All-Fi Hub, especially when you’re sure the password is correct. Let’s go through some targeted steps to help resolve this issue.

Steps to Fix the Connection Issue

Reset Printer Network Settings First

Let’s start fresh on the printer’s side:

  1. Turn on the printer if it’s off.
  2. Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel (X) buttons together for 5 seconds until the Power light blinks.
  3. This resets the wireless settings and re-enables setup mode. The wireless light should blink blue, indicating it’s ready to connect.

Forget/Re-add Network on HP Smart

Sometimes HP Smart may cache incorrect credentials:

  1. In the HP Smart app, remove the printer if it's already listed.
  2. Close and reopen the HP Smart app.
  3. Tap “Set up a new printer”, choose your 4155e, and try to manually enter your Wi-Fi password again.

Double Check Wi-Fi Password Format

Ensure the password is formatted correctly:

  • Avoid special characters like &, ', or ", as these can sometimes cause connection issues.
  • Try temporarily changing your Wi-Fi password to something simple (e.g., Testwifi123) just to see if it connects. If it does, the issue may be with the password formatting.
  • Make sure your AT&T All-Fi hub is broadcasting on the 2.4 GHz band, as the 4155e does not support 5 GHz networks.

Use WPS Push Button (Alternative Method)

If your AT&T All-Fi hub has a WPS button:

  1. Press the WPS button on your hub (usually for 3–5 seconds).
  2. Within 2 minutes, press and hold the Wireless button on your printer for 3 seconds.
  3. Wait to see if the printer connects automatically (the blue light will stop blinking and turn solid).

Use USB Setup via HP Smart

If none of the wireless methods work, try a USB setup:

  1. Connect the printer to your PC via a USB cable.
  2. Open HP Smart and go to “Add Printer.”
  3. When prompted, choose to set up the printer on your wireless network and enter your Wi-Fi credentials manually.

Make sure MAC address filtering is disabled on your AT&T hub. If it’s enabled, it could be silently rejecting the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
