HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I wish to set up my inkjet printer via USB. No WiFi, No Instant Ink account. JUST USB. The instructions provided by the HP Virtual Assistant tell me "During setup, select USB instead of wireless."  PROBLEM - the setup software NEVER asks for USB option. Automatically ask for WiFi network name and password.... which I do not want to use . And if I did use it, it then refuses to identify the USB connection. And HP tech support will not help me unless I purchase support... and I refuse to be held hostage by HP because they want to control how I use my printer.

Does anyone know how to solve this crap. How do I install my inkjet printer through USB ONLY... without all the extraneous garbage????

HP+ printers are designated by a lowercase "e" at the end of their model number (e.g., 8135e rather than 8135). These models are enabled for HP's smart printing ecosystem, which requires a permanent internet connection, an HP account, and the exclusive use of Original HP ink for the lifetime of the printer.

You can print and scan over USB but the printer needs to be able to phone home.

So, if I understand your response, HP has, without ever informing me at point of purchase, without ever informing me when I spoke with no less than 5 different support agents, without ever informing me when I text chatted with three Supervisors.... and after two phone agents and one supervisor flat out LIED to me...

That after paying in full for my printer, and testing an Instant Ink subscription for a few months until it became obvious that HP was more than 40% more expensive than any other ink options, and after 10 years of using third party ink in a wide variety of printer brands...

I am now a HOSTAGE to HP, and unless I submit to their overpriced Instant Ink Subscription, submit to paying 40% more than I really need to for their ink, and acquiesce to the fact that without it, tech support will not give me the time of day unless I purchase their time as well.....   my once useful HP Inkjet 6055e Printer is nothing more than an unattractive, unproductive, essentially useless PAPERWEIGHT.

So... as I see it, since I am in this situation because so many of HP representatives have mis-informed me, failed to properly advise me, or outright lied to me... I believe the only appropriate solutions are now for HP to make good:

(Walmart @ $129.89) (Amazon @ $199) (Best Buy @ $129.99) (BackMarket @ $149.99) AVERAGE PRICE $152.21

- Option #1:   HP can send me a check for $152.21 so I may replace my HP paperweight with a quality color inkjet printer that actually prints

 - Option #2:  HP can send me a NEW Inkjet printer with ALL OF THE SAME FEATURES and CAPABILITIES, that can work at 100% capability through a USB connection, and DOES NOT require an HP membership, HP ink, or an internet connection.

 - Option #3:  I can collect all the text threads, chat transcripts and emails that cover the many lies, misinformation, and dismissive HP representatives and prepare a nice package all annotated and ready to send to the FCC, the BBB, and disseminate through Social Media.

In my estimation, Option #1 would cost HP exactly $152.29... barely a rounding error in their massive business model. Option #2 would cost HP far less, the actual number being the manufacturing cost of whichever printer meets the conditions, and that would certainly be less than wholesale. Option #3 would cost HP.... well that is hard to say, as there must be countless dissatisfied HP printer owners with the same issues and challenges as I have described. And while I am being polite, patient and respectful... who KNOWS how any of them may respond???

If this thread is read by HP reps, good. However, if anyone reading this has a communication pipeline to HP USA Corporate, do feel free to forward this message in its entirety to them. They need to see it. They need to understand it. They need to decide which option to adopt. I can be reached here.
