We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

The printer's control panel is issuing a message "internet connection unavailable". i've never seen that message before. Why does the printer need an internet connection?

Thanks for your help,
GREENIE6

Hi @Greenie6,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The "Internet Connection Unavailable" message usually means the printer cannot reach the internet, not that it cannot print. An internet connection is only required for features such as firmware updates, HP+ services, and Instant Ink. If your printer is not enrolled in HP+, you can typically continue printing over your local Wi-Fi network or USB without internet access.

Troubleshooting Steps

Restart the printer and router:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router by unplugging it for 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

  • Power the printer back on.
  1. Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi:

  2. Restore Network Settings:

    • Touchscreen printers: Go to Setup (Gear) > Network > Restore Network Settings.

    • Printers without a touchscreen: Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel (X) buttons together for about 5 seconds until the wireless light starts blinking, then reconnect using the Wireless Setup Wizard.

If the message persists after reconnecting, let us know your printer model and whether it is enrolled in HP+ or Instant Ink, and we'll be happy to provide model-specific guidance.
