HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e All-in-One Printer

I am unable to configure my printer through a direct connection to the IP address or through the HP Smart app.  It says the PIN code is invalid.  I'm reading the PIN off the plastic cover on the printer.  The PIN used to work, but for some reason it seems to be invalid.  I tried removing and reinstalling HP Smart.  I tried power down/power up on the printer.  I tried rebooting my PC.  The PIN continues to be invalid.  I even tried typing in the serial number, but that was rejected as well.  My printer is connected to my network by ethernet.

@Rmontad, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

The Invalid PIN code error you're seeing typically relates to the HP Smart app's claim code or Embedded Web Server (EWS) admin password. Let's walk through the steps to resolve this:

Confirm What PIN You're Using

  • The PIN printed on the plastic cover is usually the claim code used to add the printer to your HP account via HP Smart.
  • If you're trying to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) via IP address, it may be asking for the admin password, not the claim code.

Reset the HP Smart Claim Code

If the claim code is invalid or expired:

  • On the printer control panel, go to: Home > Settings > HP Account > Reset HP Account
  • Then re-enable Web Services:
    • Settings > Web Services > Enable
  • A new claim code will be printed or shown on the screen.

Reset the EWS Admin Password

If you're accessing the printer via IP and it's asking for a PIN/password:

  • Open a browser and go to the printer’s IP (e.g., http://192.168.x.x)
  • If prompted for a password and you don’t know it:
    • On the printer, go to: Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Settings > Restore Security Settings
    • This will reset the EWS password to blank (no password).

Reinstall HP Smart App (Optional)

Since you've already tried reinstalling HP Smart, ensure:

  • You're signed in with the correct HP account.
  • The printer is added using the new claim code.

Additional Tips

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date:
Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
