I'm having issues connecting my HP Officejet Pro Plus 8600 printer to my new Hitron wireless router. I get a message saying that the printer is unable to connect. Tried a number of times and went through suggestion found online, including this community, but nothing as worked.

When I print out the Wireless Network Test report is says that the printer cannot connect to the wireless router, and that MAC address filtering may be enabled on the wireless router which can prevent the printer from connecting. Also says that the No Filtering failed.

Proposed solution was that if I MAC filtering was enabled and want to keep it that way, I must add the MAC address of the list of the permitted devices on the router. When I went on the router admin page, there was no information how to do that. When I tried a suggestion that I found online, it shut done wifi access to my other devices.

Also noticed that the authentication for the printer says WPA-PSK and for the router, it's WPA2-PSK. There's no way to change unless I select Open, but then not sure if the security password would stay enabled.

Any sugges

Hi @PaulR8,

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are unable to connect to your new router. I am glad to assist you.

Replacing/reconnecting/changing your wireless router, try here.

* Reset your printer back to Network Defaults.  Then run the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect.  Both can be accessed from the front panel or computer.  If no front panel for configuration, you must use your Printer USB cable to connect.  You can also try the WPS method if your router/printer supports this only if the Wizard or Printer USB cable is not available.  Read your User Guide for info.

* Wireless printers only connect to the 2.4G band in your router.  The router must have the 2.4G SSID band enabled with a different SSID name than the 5.0G SSID band in your router.

* Set router to a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6, or 11, never ‘auto’.  Try channel 1 first then the others one at a time.

* Make sure the printer and router are at least 5 feet apart.

Also, refer to the document HP Printers - No Connection after Router or Wi-Fi Settings Change
