HP DeskJet 2855e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Bought HP laptop last November and HP printer last month.  Printer was working fine until last week when it started saying it was "offline".  Even when I plugged it in with a USB cable it wouldn't print.  I went through a long fix w/Microsoft agent a few days ago and he got it going, but it has happened again.  The problem is with the laptop, not the printer, however because if I turn on my older Windows 10 laptop I can print to this printer with no problem.  My older HP printer will print with either laptop, but I have to wire it in because it won't communicate with the new router I  bought last July.

Hi @JBwat75,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected via USB. If using a wireless connection, check that both the printer and laptop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Set Printer as Default: Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & scanners". Make sure your HP DeskJet 2855e is set as the default printer.

Clear Print Queue: Sometimes print jobs stuck in the queue can cause issues. Clear the print queue by going to the printer settings and canceling any current jobs.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from HP's website. This tool can automatically diagnose and resolve many printing problems.

Update Printer Driver: Ensure the printer driver is up-to-date. You can update the driver through the "Device Manager" or by visiting the HP Support page to download the latest driver for your printer.

Restart Printer and Laptop: Turn off the printer and unplug it. Restart your laptop, then reconnect the printer and turn it back on.

Check Printer Status: Ensure your printer is not in "Offline" mode. You can check this setting under "Printers & scanners" in Windows settings.

Firewall and Network Settings: Make sure your firewall or antivirus is not blocking the printer connection. You can temporarily disable your firewall to test if it resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for trying to help but I solved the problem before I saw your post.  I had done restarts on everything numerous times to no effect but today I was standing in front of printer and noticed a button with "I" in the center.  Not knowing what that was, I pushed it and the printer printed out instructions on how to connect to internet.  I had previously connected by typing in the router pin number that was asked for, but this paper gave me a 12 number password I could use instead.  I connected to the printer network with this password and I can now print.

Don't know why printer stopped recognizing the router pin number but I now have 2 ways to connect so hopefully this won't happen again.  Thanks again for reaching out, I appreciate that.

Hi @JBwat75,

Thank you for sharing your experience, and I'm glad to hear you've resolved the issue! It's insightful to know that using the 12-digit password provided by the printer helped re-establish the connection. Sometimes, using the router's PIN can lead to connectivity issues, so having an alternative method is beneficial.

If you encounter any further issues or have questions, feel free to reach out. We're here to assist you!
