HP LaserJet Tank 2504dw Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

The last few weeks, my tank printer 2504dw has been going offline a lot. I tried reinstalling the drivers, but that didn't fix anything. I tried to do a factory reset but I forgot the password and I can't access the system settings (I can see the supplies status in the web interface, but that's it).

Any suggestions?

@paulri, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your LaserJet Tank 2504dw printer keeps going offline and you're unable to access system settings due to a forgotten password. Let's walk through a few steps to resolve both the offline issue and the password reset.

Reset the Printer Admin Password

Since you're locked out of the full Embedded Web Server (EWS) settings, you’ll need to restore the printer to factory defaults using the hardware buttons:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button on the printer.
  3. While holding both buttons, turn the printer back on.
  4. Continue holding the buttons for about 10–15 seconds until the printer resets.

This should clear the admin password and restore access to the full EWS settings.

Fix Printer Offline Issue

Once you regain access, follow these steps to ensure the printer stays online:

A. Assign a Static IP Address

  1. Open the EWS by typing the printer’s IP address in your browser.
  2. Go to Network > IPv4 Configuration.
  3. Select Manual IP and assign a static IP (e.g., 192.168.1.250).
  4. Save the settings.

B. Reinstall Printer Using TCP/IP Port

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Remove all existing entries for your printer.
  3. Click Add a Printer > The printer I want isn’t listed.
  4. Choose Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname.
  5. Enter the static IP you assigned earlier.
  6. Complete the installation and set it as default.

Optional: Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues. You can update it via the EWS or HP Smart app.

Thanks.

OK, let's do one thing at a time. I believe I followed your instructions to re-set the printer to factory settings.

I made the mistake of removing the device from my wired desktop pc, and then thinking that because the factory settings were reset, it would be smoother if I were to resinstall it.

I went into Windows 10 devices & printer window from the Control Panel, and then told it to Add the printer. It asks for the WPS pin, and I have entered it 2 times now and it won't accept it. Just to be clear: the WPS pin is the 8-digit number that appears on a label, next to a padlock icon & the word "PIN," correct?

Right now I have no clue what the IP is. All I know is that the old IP that I had earlier given it, won't work and I cannot access the web interface for this printer.

Thanks. I believe I was able to go in and do a factory reset.

However, I'm now trying to install the printer, and I am being asked for a WPS. I have tried entering it on both the desktop that is wired to it, and my laptop which is connecting to it wirelessly. I enter an 8-digit number that is on a label inside the printer, next to a padlock icon and the word "PIN." That is the WPS pin, correct? It isn't working on either my laptop or my desktop.

For whatever reason, I keep on trying to post here. Not sure if this one will go through.

I believe I did the factory reset. However, when trying to install the printer again through Windows (add a device or printer), it asks me for a WPS pin. What I'm entering isn't being accepted, either on my desktop connected to the printer via USB cable, or my wireless connection with a laptop. To be clear, the WPS pin is the 8 digit number on the label right by the padlock icon and the word "PIN," correct?

I tried using the HP Easy Start software on my laptop. It can see the printer, but then asks me for the admin password. It won't let me not enter anything; I have tried entering admin, & the WPS pin, or just the spacebar (once). Nothing is being accepted.

Looks like all my posts suddenly appeared.

Max, I'm not trying to confuse things, but I did send you some PMs that are more current than the most recent post here. If you want, I can post again here  and we can keep it all in one thread here (so you can disregard my PMs). Just let me know. I'm not trying to bombard this thread with tons of posts, or your PMs.
