HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3302fdw

Hi - my laser jet was working fine (we have only had it a few weeks) but now it says it is offline when it isn’t (and won’t print) and says the paper trays are empty when they are not.  Sometimes it says it is “ready” on the laptop but nothing happens when we press print. I am otherwise getting “error” messages but no other details are available to identify the “error.

@AnnaM2101, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the LaserJet not printing!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like you're facing multiple issues with your printer. Here's a troubleshooting guide to help resolve the problem:

Check Printer Status:

  • Go to the printer settings on your laptop and check if it’s set as the default printer. Sometimes the printer may show as “offline” when it's not set to default.
  • In the “Devices and Printers” section, right-click your printer and select “See what's printing.” If there’s a stuck print job, cancel it and try printing again.

Printer Connectivity:

  • Make sure the printer is properly connected to the network. If it’s a wireless printer, check if the Wi-Fi connection is stable.
  • For USB printers, try unplugging and re-plugging the cable, or using a different USB port.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause the printer to show as offline. Go to the print queue and clear any pending print jobs.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure your printer drivers are up to date. Go to the manufacturer’s website, download the latest drivers, and reinstall them. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause issues like this.

Paper Tray Detection Issue:

  • For the paper tray showing empty when it isn’t, try removing and reinserting the paper tray. Make sure the paper is aligned correctly, and that nothing is blocking the sensors.
  • Try printing with a small stack of paper to see if it helps.

Error Messages:

  • Check if the printer’s display screen or software shows any specific error code. If it does, refer to the manual for troubleshooting steps based on the error code.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset minor glitches.

Let me know how it goes, or if any specific error codes appear!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
