HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw

How do I add a new wifi/Network Name SSID for HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw?  I have tried everything and the  HP Smart App is not finding the printer. Have powered down everything, reset everything and uninstalled and reinstalled Smart App. I even reached out to geek squad at Best Buy and they are giving me directions about this mysterious " WiFi Network Wizard" but the printer does not have this option at all -neither under network setup nor wifi menu. I’ve updated the printer firmware to the latest. It is ridiculous to feel back into a corner to have to pay HP (out of warranty) for help to do something as simple as setting up WiFi. My router/modem does NOT have WPS button so I do not have a way to do the WiFi protected setup. There should be a way on the HP smart app to easily input my wifi name and password, also while on topic why is the app so outdated as is this printer (even though I just got it in 2020) Please help!! Thank you!

Hi @CurlyCam,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I can understand the frustration of trying to set up Wi-Fi on your LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw without a Wi-Fi Setup Wizard or WPS button—it shouldn’t have to be this complicated! Here’s a different approach that may help:

Steps to Connect the Printer to Wi-Fi Without WPS

USB Cable Connection:

  • Connect the Printer to a Computer via USB: Temporarily connect your printer to your computer with a USB cable. This will allow you to manually configure the Wi-Fi settings.
  • Open the HP Smart app or download the HP Easy Start software from HP’s website.
  • Choose USB Setup with Wireless Option: When prompted, select the option to set up the printer’s wireless connection. You should then be able to enter your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password manually.

Enable Wi-Fi Direct on the Printer:

  • On the printer control panel, navigate to Network Setup and look for Wi-Fi Direct.
  • Enable Wi-Fi Direct. This creates a temporary wireless network from the printer itself.

Connect via Wi-Fi Direct from a Computer or Mobile Device:

  • From your computer or mobile device, go to the Wi-Fi settings and connect to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network. The network name should start with DIRECT followed by your printer model.
  • Once connected, go back to the HP Smart app, which should detect the printer. From there, follow any prompts to set up Wi-Fi and enter your network credentials.

Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • While connected via Wi-Fi Direct, open a web browser on your computer and enter the IP address of the printer (you can find it on the printer’s control panel under Network Setup > Wi-Fi Direct).
  • Once in the Embedded Web Server, go to the Network tab and enter your Wi-Fi network SSID and password under Wireless Setup.

Reconnect Your Computer and Printer to the Wi-Fi Network:

  • After configuring the network settings, disconnect the USB cable and restart the printer. Make sure both the printer and your computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, then reopen HP Smart to verify the connection.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
