HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer

My HP  P1102w printer worked wirelessly for months, but suddently it stopped working. I updated the drivers, deleted and reinstalled the printer to no avail. Incredibly, the message from the installer is that it can't find the printer on the wirelss network - even though it is clearly visible.. Now I am using the printer connected by USB. My Laptop is HP, my printer is HP yet they don't work together. I have seen the convoluted instructions given to other users. Why, in 2024 is this so complicated?  I have been advised to buy a different brand of printer, which I will probably do.

Hi @Robin0611,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when a device that was working fine suddenly stops functioning, especially with something as integral as a printer. Here are detailed steps to help you troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue with your HP LaserJet P1102W:

1. Verify Network Connection

  • Check Wireless Network: Ensure that your wireless network is functioning properly. Verify that other devices can connect to the network without issues.
  • Check Printer’s Wireless Status: On the printer, navigate to the wireless settings and ensure that it is connected to the correct network.

2. Restart Devices

  • Restart Printer: Power off the printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Restart Router: Power cycle your router by unplugging it, waiting for about 30 seconds, and then plugging it back in.
  • Restart Computer: Restart your laptop or computer to reset any network-related settings.

3. Reconfigure Wireless Settings

Reset Wireless Settings on Printer:

  • Navigate to the printer’s control panel.
  • Access the wireless settings menu.
  • Look for an option to Restore Network Defaults or Reset Network Settings. This will clear any old network settings.

Reconfigure Wireless Setup:

  • Use the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer to search for and connect to your network again.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to select your network and enter the Wi-Fi password.

4. Reinstall Printer Software

Uninstall Old Software:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the HP LaserJet P1102W and select Remove device.
  • Uninstall any existing HP software from Control Panel > Programs and Features.

Download and Install Latest Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website.
  • Download the latest drivers and software for the HP LaserJet P1102W.
  • Follow the installation instructions, ensuring you select the wireless setup option when prompted.

5. Use HP Smart App or Printer Software

HP Smart App:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app if you haven’t already.
  • Open the app, and follow the instructions to add your printer. The app can help with wireless setup and troubleshooting.

HP Printer Software:

  • Use the HP Printer Software that came with your printer or download it from HP’s website.
  • Open the software and select the option to set up the printer wirelessly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
