Recently moved and my printer will not allow me to connect to the wifi network. Network setup and restore are locked. I’ve searched the community before but the standard HP document on how to connect does not address locked printers. Please advise.

Hi @DaisyLee1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP printer has a locked configuration, potentially due to a previous administrator setup or a security feature. To resolve this, you can try performing a factory reset, which will restore the printer to its default settings, allowing you to reconnect it to the WiFi network. Here’s how you can perform a factory reset depending on the printer model.

General Steps for Resetting HP Printers:

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  2. Press and hold the power button.
  3. While holding the power button, plug the printer back in.
  4. Continue holding the power button for 10-15 seconds, then release it.
  5. The printer should now restart and be restored to its default factory settings.

Specific Models:

For Touchscreen HP Printers:

  • Go to "Setup" on the printer's screen.
  • Navigate to "Restore Factory Defaults" or "Restore Network Settings" under Settings or Network Settings.
  • Confirm the reset and follow the instructions to reconnect to WiFi.

For Printers without a Touchscreen:

  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons simultaneously for 5-10 seconds until the wireless light flashes. This restores the default wireless settings.

If you continue to experience problems or the options are still locked, it’s possible that an administrator password was set.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
