Is there any printer out there that is even close to the HP8600?
I have had an HP8600 that is still working fine, although I did replace the print head once after three years. It's now been 8 years and it's going strong.
I have had 2 - 8035 printers that didn't last over a year. I have 2 other printers from Canon and Epson that still work fine but not as great as the 8600.
Wondering if anyone out there has a suggestion for a good printer that can last like this 8600:) It has great quality and durability. I have not been able to locate anything that matches those criteria.
I did try to communicate with HP about this. That's when they suggested the 8035. I bought two. Not the right choice from the experience. Quality and durability down the drain. I also tried their support to get these 8035 printers working properly. What was I thinking? Support? They should add a disclaimer that there is no support. Their replies simply loop to call us directly to try and solve the problem. They don't apparently solve anything.
Are all printer manufacturers like this?
I use my printers for business and home use, as well as photo and graphics. If you have had great success with a printer you depend on, I would love to know which one you would suggest.
Thanks for any help with this.

Welcome to the HP User Community.
I purchased an OfficeJet Pro 9025 in 2019 when they first came out.
I very much like this printer.
I never had an 8600 - that said, I've had both an OfficeJet Pro 8630 and the OfficeJet Pro 8740 - both were similar to the 8600 in terms of features. The OfficeJet Pro 9025 is comparable, too - this is a "does everything" kind of machine.
As of earlier this year (?), the "plain" 9025 is no longer available - the OfficeJet Pro 9025e is available at the HP Store and from other merchants.
This is - for an OfficeJet Pro - an expensive printer (about $400 at this writing) - this model is not for the "budget minded" consumer.
What is the difference between "plain" and the newer "HP+" capable "9025e" version?
Primarily (as far as I can tell after pouring over the details on both), the 9025e offers HP+ service as an option.
What is HP+
Read the information - there is quite a bit of it - about HP+ before deciding to "enable" the service option.
I've included the links near the end of this message.
HP+ -- My interpretation - Very much NOT to be taken as fact:
- In its simplest form, the HP+ extends the printer hardware warranty without extra cost to the consumer.
- HP+, if it is enabled, requires that the printer is connected to the Internet pretty much all the time so the basic printer usage and mechanics can be monitored. No personal data is collected. Monitoring the hardware is a way for HP to learn about how the printer is used (connection and usage statistics) and whether there are issues (mechanics).
- HP+, if it is enabled, requires that only HP genuine ink cartridges be used in the printer. Without HP+, there is a bit more leeway - ink cartridges that are chipped with HP circuitry can be used / reused / filled. This is an important distinction and one you should read about should you be interested in the differences.
- HP+, if it is enabled, grants the user an extended Trial period to try an Instant Ink subscription. Again, the details are important - Instant Ink is (at this writing) a Print-by-Page subscription that includes all the ink you use while the plan / subscription is active. If - after carefully reading the Instant Ink Terms of Service, you are interested in the service - go ahead and sign up. Instant Ink is completely voluntary - you don't need a subscription to an ink plan to use the printer. The extended trial is a way to find out whether the service is a good fit for your situation.
OK - enough of that.
The printer:
Datasheet HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e All-in-One Printer
Some of the highlights:
Single pass 2-sided scan - an awesome feature and one that is NOT in your 8035.
SMTP / Digital Filing
Print Anywhere support / option - this is the "new" tech for fussy, old ePrint
No fussy photo tray.
Two paper trays - Custom paper and "not plain paper" goes in Tray 2
A fairly good range of supported paper sizes & types, custom paper sizes, Borderless printing
OCR
Pretty sure about this one -
My 9025 came with a single-license IRIS OCR software option. (It is still in the most recent software installed in mid-July).
I was curious - is the IRIS single-license OCR software option in the printer software for the 9025e?
I extracted the installation package for the printer software for the 9025e and - yes - the IRIS software appears to be "there".
I did not install the package so I am actually guessing based on the information I could glean from extracted data ...
NOTE: Printer software for some models have been recently repackaged without the built-in OCR -- built-in OCR is apparently a different animal.
How sturdy is the printer?
- No idea - I've had mine three years.
- One time I totally jammed the printer - fussing with paper and loading to test something - a reset fixed it.
- The printer really likes to be kept clean. Keeping the printer clean is not difficult and using HP ink likely helps, too. (Opinion, people - hold your comments.)
- No wriggly, annoying connection issues to speak of - I do have a very robust network and I run the printer on Ethernet - might make a difference. If the router or the service falters, then yes - printer suffers until the source of the issue is corrected.
- One time (not too long ago), I had to strip all printer the software (both printers) and reload it - it would not stay connected (right after the comment about the network, too), new computer was balky, and the printer software was doing other strange and wonderful things. Likely a Windows Update but I never really investigated the "why".

Preparation
There are parts to the Printer Software:
- HP Smart application - supports printing and scanning PDF and Photos / Images. HP Smart is supported in many regions and on many newer networked printers - The app is available from the Microsoft Store . HP Smart requires that you sign in using your HP Account credentials. HP Smart benefits when the full driver printer software is also installed.
- HP Smart Printing – “Smart Printing” is a selection in the printer list when choosing the printer to be used for the current job setup. For example, where supported for an InkJet printer, the feature is available as selection in the Printer (list – top left of menu) > Select HP Smart Printing. NOTE: Smart Printing supports Custom Presets (shortcuts).
- HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in programs (for example, Word), and access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts. The full driver printer software includes HP Scan. If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver. No Sign-in required.
