@cordesmike,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Community! 🎉

I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:

1. Check Network Connection

  • Verify Wi-Fi network: Ensure your printer is within range of the Wi-Fi network and that your Wi-Fi is working properly. Check if other devices (like phones or laptops) can connect to the same network.
  • Restart your router: Sometimes, restarting your router can help reestablish a stable connection.

2. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer: Unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds: This ensures that the printer’s internal memory is cleared.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

3. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi

  • Using the Control Panel (on the printer):
    1. On the printer's control panel, select Setup (the gear icon).
    2. Navigate to Network Setup or Wireless Setup Wizard.
    3. The printer will scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Select your network and enter the password if prompted.
  • Using HP Smart App:
    1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
    2. Select + to add a new printer.
    3. Choose Wi-Fi Setup and follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect the printer to your network.

4. Check Printer’s Network Settings

  • Print a network configuration page from the printer. It should show your printer’s IP address, network name (SSID), and connection status.
    • On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Reports > Network Configuration Report.
  • Ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network (SSID) and note down the IP address.

5. Verify Printer’s IP Address

  • Static IP: If you are using a static IP, ensure that the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway are correctly configured.
  • Dynamic IP (DHCP): If the printer uses dynamic IP, ensure the router's DHCP server is enabled and that there is no IP address conflict.

6. Check for Firmware Update

  • Make sure your printer's firmware is up-to-date:
    1. Open the HP Smart app and check for any firmware updates available for your printer.
    2. If no update is available via the app, you can also check on the HP website for your printer model and download the latest firmware.

7. Uninstall and Reinstall the Printer

  • Remove the printer from your computer:
    1. Open Settings on your computer.
    2. Go to Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    3. Click on your printer and select Remove Device.
  • Reinstall the Printer:
    1. Open the HP Smart app.
    2. Click Add a Printer and follow the prompts to reinstall it on your network.

8. Reset Network Settings on Printer

  • This will reset the wireless network settings on your printer, so it will forget the current network and require you to reconnect to Wi-Fi.
    1. On the printer's control panel, go to Setup.
    2. Navigate to Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
    3. Confirm to reset the network settings.

9. Check for Interference or Overloaded Network

  • Ensure your router’s Wi-Fi channel is not overloaded with too many devices or interference. You may want to change the channel or move the printer closer to the router to ensure a strong signal.

10. Ensure Printer is Set as Default

  • On Windows 11:
    1. Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Find your printer in the list and click on it.
    3. Click on Manage and set it as the default printer.

11. Check for Firewall or Antivirus Blocking the Connection

  • Sometimes, a firewall or antivirus software may block the printer from connecting to the network.
  • Disable the firewall or antivirus temporarily and check if the printer connects.

12. Perform a Full Network Reset (Last Resort)

  • If none of the above step's work, you can perform a factory reset on the printer to restore it to its original settings. This will remove all network settings and preferences.
    1. On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Restore Factory Defaults or similar.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset.
    3. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network using the wireless setup wizard.
