Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My OfficeJet Pro 7740 loses it's connection to my home WiFi every day. The first time I want to use the printer or scanner for the day, I have to power off and power on the printer. Then it connects and seems to stay connected for the rest of the day. How can I get it to keep a persistent connection?

Hi @ChuckD58,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for explaining the issue clearly. Since the OfficeJet Pro 7740 reconnects after you power it off and back on, and then remains connected for the rest of the day, the key is to determine why the wireless connection is being lost while the printer is idle overnight. I would like to check the printer's wireless status and network environment first rather than have you reinstall software unnecessarily.

First, could you confirm these details?

  • Approximately how far is the printer from the Wi-Fi router
  • Are there any walls, cabinets, floors, or other obstructions between the printer and router?
  • Are you using a Wi-Fi extender, mesh system, repeater, hub, or other network extension device
  • Is the printer connected to your private home Wi-Fi, or a guest/public network?
  • When the printer is unavailable the next morning, does the Wi-Fi icon on the printer show disconnected, or does it still show as connected?
  • Do your other devices remain connected to the home Wi-Fi normally during this time?
  • Does the printer reconnect immediately after a power cycle without making any changes to the router?

Check the printer's Wireless Network Test
When the problem occurs before powering the printer off and on:

  1. From the printer's touchscreen, open the Wireless/Wi-Fi settings.
  2. Print the Wireless Network Test Report
  3. Check the report for the wireless connection status and any errors.

This report can help determine whether the printer has actually lost its connection to the router or whether the issue is between the computer and printer.

If you share the Wireless Network Test Report, send it to me through a private message rather than posting it publicly, as the report can contain information about your wireless network. A clear photo of the printer's Wi-Fi screen while the issue is occurring would also be helpful.

I would also keep the printer connected directly to your private home Wi-Fi network, rather than a guest/public network, while we troubleshoot this.

Once I have the answers above and can review the Wireless Network Test results, we can narrow down why the 7740 is dropping its connection overnight and work through the appropriate HP-supported solution.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
