Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

The printer shows up when my phone is on the same Wi-Fi network, and it prints fine when I'm home. It's connected via Ethernet. However, when I'm away from home, it says 'unavailable.' Remote Print used to work, but all of a sudden, it has stopped. Everything is up to date.

@wserserse, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The printer might be offline or unavailable for various reasons, such as an internal device error or a lost internet connection.

1. Restart the printer and device to clear any possible errors.

2. Open the HP Smart app and then wait at least 45 seconds from the app to find the printer.

  • If the printer is in a ready state with a green check mark or cloud icon, the printer is connected. You are done.
  • If the printer is in an unavailable or offline state with a black icon, continue with these steps.

3. Restore Wi-Fi setup mode.

  • Printers with a touchscreen control panel: On the control panel, open the Wireless or Setup menu, select Network Setup or Settings, and then select Restore Network Settings.
  • Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Use the control panel buttons to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer.

4. Within 2 hours, open the HP Smart app, and then click Add Printer or the Add icon .

5. Select your printer from the list, and then follow the prompts to reconnect it to the network.

I suggest you refer to this guide for further troubleshooting: HP printers - Print Anywhere with the HP Smart app | HP® Support

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

I’m having trouble printing remotely using the HP Smart app on my HP Color LaserJet Pro M283fdw. When I’m in the office and connected to WiFi, I can see the printer just fine. However, once I leave the network, the printer becomes unavailable, even though it appears to be connected to the internet.

I’ve already configured the firewall to allow the printer access and have done everything I can think of to fix the issue. I’ve always been able to use the "Print Anywhere" feature on my phone, even when out of the country, but now, whenever I try to print from a different network, the app won’t recognize the printer and says it’s unavailable.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

@wserserse, thank you for the response; let's try a few more steps:

1. Confirm Print Anywhere is Enabled

Open the HP Smart app on your phone.

Go to Printer Settings > Print Anywhere.

Make sure Print Anywhere is enabled. If it’s disabled, turn it back on.

If enabled, toggle it off and back on to refresh the connection.

2. Check HP Connected and HP Smart Account

Log in to HP Smart from a web browser.

See if the printer appears under your account.

If it’s showing offline, remove the printer and re-add it.

3. Restart and Reconnect the Printer

Power off the printer, unplug it, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in.

Make sure it's connected to the same network as before.

4. Verify Internet Access

Even though the printer is online, it might not be correctly reaching HP’s servers:

Print a network configuration report from the printer’s menu.

Look for Internet Connection Status—it should say Connected.

If it says Disconnected, restart your router and try again.

Also, make sure your ISP isn't blocking HP Smart services.

5. Reset HP Smart on Your Phone

Sign out of HP Smart on your phone.

Clear the app cache (if on Android) or reinstall the app.

Sign back in and add the printer again.

6. Assign a Static IP and Google DNS

If the connection keeps dropping:

Open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering its IP address in a web browser.

Go to Network > IPv4 Configuration and assign a static IP.

Under DNS settings, change the primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and the secondary to 8.8.4.4.

Save and restart the printer.

i hope this helps

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @wserserse,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for your message. If you're using the HP LaserJet M283fdw and you're experiencing issues with the HP Smart app, especially related to the "Print Anywhere" feature disappearing, here’s how to resolve it:

1. Update the HP Smart App

Make sure you're using the latest version:

  • On Windows/macOS: Go to Microsoft Store or App Store > Search HP Smart > Click Update.
  • On iOS/Android: Visit the App Store or Play Store and update the app.

2. Sign In to Your HP Account

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Go to the Account icon (top right).
  • Make sure you’re signed in with the HP account that was used to set up the printer.
    • If the printer was set up under a different account, some features will be missing.

3. Enable Web Services (if not already)

On the printer control panel:

  • Tap Network or Setup > Web Services Setup.
  • If Web Services is off, turn it on.
  • Wait for the printer to print a claim code page if prompted.
  • If Web Services are locked, follow my earlier steps about unlocking the control panel.

4. Re-enable "Print Anywhere" in HP Smart

After Web Services are active:

  • In the HP Smart app, go to your printer > Tap the printer image or settings gear.
  • Look for “Print Anywhere” in the settings menu.
    • If it appears, enable it.
    • If it’s missing entirely, you may need to remove and re-add the printer.

5. Remove & Re-add Printer

In HP Smart:

  • Click the printer > Remove Printer.
  • Tap Add Printer > Let it search for your printer > Reconnect via Wi-Fi or USB.
  • When prompted, sign in and link the printer to your HP account.
