Im having serious problems with connections to my printer. - It is starting to struggle more and more.
I simply can't connect to it. - When using Wifi, the connection according to the printer is "strong".
The issues are also when connected with LAN. Currently im using Google Nest Pro, but on my Ubuti the issues is the same.

When trying to access the printer throug HP Smart, advance, each toggle between the tabs my take up to 2-4 minutters before the tabs reply. The printer is "online" in the HP Smart, but when trying to print, the printer changes status to "Offline".

The same issues is from different Win10 and Win11 pc's, Macbook Air 2022, iPhones and Android devices. - The printer is "online", but as soon as a print job is send, the printer is showing to be "offline".

The printer is running on firmware 2023 0321.
I'm trying to upgrade the firmware through the printers interface, but after 5 minuttes it fails with internal error.

When trying throug HP Smart app, there is just no respons from the printer.

What can I do? - Seems like some networkerror inside the printer, sinces this orcours within several networks.

Hi @TroelsJohansen,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing significant connectivity issues with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw printer across multiple devices and network configurations.

Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve these issues:

1. Restart Everything

  • Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Router: Restart your Google Nest Pro or any other router you're using.
  • Devices: Restart the devices you're using to connect to the printer.

2. Update Printer Firmware Manually

If updating through the interface and HP Smart app fails, you can try updating the firmware manually:

  • Download the latest firmware: Go to the HP support website and download the latest firmware for your printer model. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Install via USB: Use a USB connection to connect the printer to a computer. Follow the instructions on the HP website to update the firmware via USB.

3. Check Network Configuration

  • Static IP Address: Assign a static IP address to the printer to avoid IP conflicts and ensure a stable connection.
  • Check Subnet Mask: Ensure the printer is on the same subnet as your devices.
  • Disable IPv6: Some network issues can be resolved by disabling IPv6 on the printer and the router.

4. Printer Settings

  • Network Reset: Reset the network settings on the printer to factory defaults and reconnect it to your network.
  • Wi-Fi Direct: If available, try using Wi-Fi Direct to see if the connection is more stable.

5. Router Settings

  • Separate Bands: Ensure your router's 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands are separated. Some printers have issues with the 5 GHz band.
  • Channel Selection: Set your Wi-Fi channel to a fixed channel rather than automatic. Channels 1, 6, or 11 are often the most stable.

6. HP Smart App Troubleshooting

  • Reinstall HP Smart: Uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart app on your devices.
  • Clear App Data: Clear the app data and cache (on mobile devices) to ensure there are no corrupt settings causing issues.

7. Driver Updates

8. Printer and Network Diagnostics

  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website to diagnose and fix common connectivity issues.
  • Network Test Report: Print a Network Configuration Page from your printer's control panel to check for any network-related errors.

9. Advanced Troubleshooting

  • Firewall and Security Software: Temporarily disable any firewall or security software on your devices to see if they are blocking the connection.
  • Router Firmware: Ensure your router's firmware is up to date.
