HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw
iOS

I recently bought a MFP M283fdw and like it, but I have the sleep and 'turn off' times as long as I can set it.  I also have it set to manual IP and have updated all firmware as far as I can tell.  It constantly turns off (after the max allotted time) and won't wake up when I am wanting to print which also means HP Smart print cannot find it either.  It doesn't matter if It's on my iphone or my Windows 11 laptop it won't print.

The only solution I have found is to turn it off and back on again (which means I have to turn it off and on daily because it goes inactive overnight).  This includes if my laptop finds it when it is 'offline' and I tell it to print,  it won't print until I turn it off and back on.  My phone just won't even find it.
It's frustrating as my old HP deskjet was always available and woke immediately when I would print.  I am obviously not the only one who has this issue. Is there a good solution yet? I have seen this question dating back at least 3 years.

Hi @Milangal9 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw going offline and not waking up properly from sleep mode. This seems to be a common problem reported by users of this printer model.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  • Check Power Settings: Ensure that the power settings on your printer are configured correctly. Make sure that the sleep and turn-off times are set to their maximum values.
  • Network Connection: Verify that your printer is connected to the network properly and that it has a stable connection. Sometimes, network issues can cause printers to go offline.
  • Static IP Address: Since you've set a manual IP address, double-check that the IP address you've assigned to the printer is within the correct range and isn't conflicting with any other devices on your network.
  • Firmware Update: Make sure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates include bug fixes that can address issues like this. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • HP Smart App: Try using the HP Smart app to troubleshoot the connectivity issue. The app can sometimes help diagnose and resolve problems with HP printers.
  • Restart Router: Occasionally, restarting your router can resolve network connectivity issues that may be causing the printer to go offline.
  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can try performing a factory reset on your printer. However, be aware that this will reset all settings on the printer, so you'll need to reconfigure it afterward.

as far as I can tell I have done all of your suggestions.  which hasn't solved anything.  This seems to be a long standing issue

My only solution so far (which I dislike) is I plugged it into a WIFI outlet so I can turn it off then back on from afar.
