Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

So my printer is offline.  Tried everything under the sun to get it connected to the WiFi.  I found a phone number on Google to call a HP service tech, >removed<.  After I stupidly gave him permissions to get into my computer, he did a scan and said my MSI chip was corrupted and that it had a lifetime warranty.  HP would reimburse me $190 for the printer.  Would deposit in my checking account.  Sounded so legit from first because I am the one who called them.  Was on the phone for a very very long time.  His bank, Wells Fargo was not able to connect to my bank, which in the end is probable a blessing.  After well over an hour, I was getting very very uncomfortable.  I finally just disconnected them and deleted the communication link.  I kept thinking since I called them, it wasn't a scam.  But I am not sure. I keep checking my account and everything is still good.  Then I googled, "are HP MSI chips have a life time warranty".  The answer was a sound NO!!  Anybody ever hear of this kind of scam before.?

Hi  @gostwriter,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern, don’t worry let me help you with this.

Based on what you’ve described, We want to make sure you’re safe and that we can investigate further.

Could you please provide us with:

The exact phone number you called.

The website or source where you found that number (for example, was it a Google search result, an ad, or a specific site link?).

This information will help us trace details.

Do not share any banking or personal information with them.

Run a full antivirus/malware scan on your computer since remote access was granted.

Only use the official HP support website https://support.hp.com/  or the verified HP Support phone numbers listed on the HP website.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
