Common problems for Connectivity Issues

Hi everyone,

We bought a new HP printer yesterday and are flummoxed by the wifi connections to our home Macbook. We have a BT Smart hub that has dual band 2.4ghz and 5ghz that can be turned on and off separately but are otherwise combined. The printer will only work if we switch the router to 2.4ghz and connect the printer and Mac to 2.4ghz.

If we switch 5ghz back on the Mac automatically selects 5ghz (printer stays on 2.4ghz) and then we cannot print via AirPrint but can through the app. This is a sort of workaround, but we cannot find a way to print emails and powerpoint slides in the app which is frustrating.

We can print via the app from iPad and iPhone, but again not using AirPrint. We get a 'printer not offline' message and an endless loop of trying to and failing to connect.

I am at the stage of wanting to return the printer today as it's so frustrating. Does anyone have any tips on a workaround of how to set up a MacBook to this type of printer? My brother works in IT and he is flummoxed by it as well and thinks it is router/printer connection issue.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I am having the same issue with my older HP printer. We had our internet and wifi router updated last week (BT smart hub 2), and previously had no issues printing wirelessly, now our printer is offline, if both bands are turned on. If I turn off 5ghz, and the devices are all on 2.4ghz, it works fine! but as soon as 5ghz is on and the devices are connected, they don't seem to be able to interact across the bands, like they previously have.

I have no clue how to fix this, I've tried everything i can think of, and have been googling for ages.
