What are the workarounds to be able to scan  without being connected to the internet?

I think it's wrong that HP is uploading copy's of our scans and selling the date but I have a full bank of ink carts that have to be used before I can get rid of this HP printer.

So, does anyone have a workaround to this requirement? Are their any other programs out there that will let me scan a document without uploading a copy of it?

And since HP is uploading a copy of our scans, if we scan a medical document, wouldn't that fall under HIPAA and wouldn't that be a HIPAA violation for uploading a copy of our personal medical records without permission?

Knowing your model number would be really useful as there are alternative methods of scanning but options vary by model.  HP Universal scan driver for instance is a local install scanning package. Many printers also support scan to network folder so you can scan directly to a folder on your network or computer. Scan to a USB key may also be supported.

In terms of HIPPA violation, likely if you read the entire end user agreement, there is likely an out for HP on that and likely you also agreed to them uploading your data when you installed the program.
