Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I'm using an HP Office Jet Pro 8028e Printer and a Windows 11 desktop with no VPN.  I've tried to uninstall all software pertaining to the old printer since HP Smart was finding it and not finding the new printer.  (incidentlyl, the new printer was working when newly installed but somewhere along the line, as far as HP Smart is concerned, it dropped out of existence.)

The printer is turned on and connected to the same WiFi as the desktop.  HP Smart says it is not turned on. Various software finds it but says it is either "offline" or "turned off."

I have reinstalled HP Smart and it is working and says, at the top, "Select Add Printer to set up a new printer or to add a printer that is already connected to a network."  When I click Add Printer it finds my printer but says it is "Offline."

I've restarted both printer and desktop numerous times, in various orders, without any change.  I've been through all the HP installation pages without effect.

I'm out of ideas and need help.

Hi @jdljal,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing printing issues with your HP Office Jet Pro 8028e Printer.

Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor on the computer connected to the printer.
1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/printscandoctor
2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
4. If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on and then click Retry.
5. If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
6. If the screen displays prompting to turn on printer updates, click Yes and continue.
7. If the screen displays prompting to make your printer the default printer, click Yes and continue.
You may also refer to this document to know how to use HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Let me know if this helps and have a great day ahead.

Hi  Sorry for the delay. Personal problems…

I used the HP print doctor without effect befor I turned to the forum. Since then, something I did solved the problem but I can’t identify what the “fix” was. In any case, it is mostly fixed now.
occasionally it will show the computer offline. During a restart the printer will print the document even before the computer has completely rebooted. There’s still a small glitch but it’s mostly operational.
