Hi @Colomayer,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the WPS error.

When trying to connect your HP Photosmart C4780 All-in-One Printer using the WPS button and encountering a WPS error, it typically indicates a problem with the wireless setup process. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Verify WPS Compatibility

  • Ensure that both your printer and your router support WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup).

2. Reset Network Settings on the Printer

  1. Turn on the Printer: Make sure your printer is powered on.
  2. Restore Network Defaults:
    • Press the Wireless button on the printer’s control panel.
    • Navigate to Settings and select Restore Network Defaults.
    • Confirm the reset.

3. Check Router WPS Settings

  1. Access Router Settings: Log in to your router’s web interface (usually through a web browser by entering the router’s IP address).
  2. Locate WPS Settings: Ensure that WPS is enabled on your router. Sometimes it might be disabled by default for security reasons.
  3. Enable WPS: If it's disabled, enable WPS and save the settings.

4. Reconnect Using WPS

  1. Activate WPS on Printer:
    • Press the Wireless button on the printer.
    • Select Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
    • Choose Push Button option.
  2. Activate WPS on Router: Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your router.
  3. Wait for Connection: The printer should attempt to connect to the network. This can take a few minutes. Look for a confirmation on the printer’s display that the connection was successful.

Kindly check the next steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Colomayer,

Please find the next steps below.

5. Manual Wireless Setup

If WPS continues to fail, try setting up the wireless connection manually:

  1. Printer Display: Go to the Wireless menu on the printer.
  2. Select Network Setup: Choose Wireless Settings, then select Wireless Setup Wizard.
  3. Select Your Network: The printer will search for available wireless networks. Select your network from the list.
  4. Enter Password: Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted.

6. Use HP Smart App

Alternatively, you can use the HP Smart app for an easier setup process:

  1. Download HP Smart: Install the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Follow Setup Instructions: Open the HP Smart app and follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer and connect it to the Wi-Fi network.

7. Update Printer Firmware

Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date:

  1. Visit HP Support: Go to the HP Support website.
  2. Search for Your Printer Model: Enter "HP Photosmart C4780" and download any available firmware updates.
  3. Install Firmware Update: Follow the instructions to update the firmware.

8. Factory Reset the Printer

If all else fails, performing a factory reset may help:

  1. Restore Factory Defaults:
    • On the printer control panel, press the Setup button.
    • Navigate to Preferences or Tools.
    • Select Restore Factory Defaults and confirm the reset.

9. Check Router Settings and Compatibility

  1. Router Settings: Ensure your router is not blocking new devices or has MAC address filtering enabled. Disable these settings temporarily if they are enabled.
  2. Network Frequency: Ensure your router is broadcasting on a 2.4 GHz frequency, as many printers do not support 5 GHz networks.

If after following these steps the issue persists, it might be necessary to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
