It shows it is online but it will not print. Or if it does print, it only prints a half page and then shoots out a blank page. I have run the diagnostic but it comes back with no issues. How do I fix my printer?

I am sorry to hear that your HP Smart Tank Plus 551 printer is online but not printing correctly, such as printing only half a page or ejecting blank pages, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve these issues.

 

Check Ink Levels and Fill the Tanks

  • Verify Ink Levels: Low ink levels can impact print quality. You should check the ink levels on the printer's control panel and refill any tanks that are low on ink.
  • Use Genuine HP Ink: Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink as non-HP ink can result in quality and reliability issues.

Verify Print Settings

  • Paper Type and Quality: Make sure the paper type and quality settings match your print job. Ensure the correct paper size and print quality settings are selected.
  • Check for Correct Print Orientation: Ensure that the print job is set correctly in terms of portrait or landscape orientation.

Clean Ink Smears

  • Using the HP Smart App: Open the HP Smart app, and navigate to 'Alignment & Maintenance' under Tools. Use the 'Clean Smear' option to clean printhead contacts and improve print quality.

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page

  • Print Diagnostic Page: Press and hold the Copy Color and Resume buttons on the printer control panel for three seconds to print a diagnostic page. Review it for missing colors or faded prints.

Clean the Printhead

  • Using the HP Smart App: Go to 'Tools', select 'Print Quality Tools', and then 'Clean Printhead'. This helps fix issues with incorrect colors or streaks.

Align the Printhead

  • Alignment via HP Smart App: Use the HP Smart app to align the printheads to ensure best print quality.

Check Connections

  • Connection and Driver: Confirm that your printer is properly connected to your computer, and that you have the latest printer driver installed.
