HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My printer was working very well until I changed the password on my wireless internet.  I created a guest network to put all of the wireless appliances on to more effectively manage the available bandwidth.  When I set up the printer again I erroneously connected it to the guest network.  My PC is on the Main network.

1/Do the PC and the Printer need to both be on the Main network for the printer to work properly?

2/Now my printer does not see the Main network.  I know I have a strong signal.

....I've tried the WPS connection option,

...I've tried entering the network name and password.

...None of these attempts have been successful.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @JHawk65,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're facing with reconnecting your printer. It can be frustrating when changes to the network create unexpected complications. Let's work together to resolve this.

Let's address Your Questions:

Do the PC and the Printer need to both be on the Main network for the printer to work properly?
Yes, both devices need to be on the same network for seamless communication. If your PC is on the main network and the printer is on the guest network, they may not communicate unless the guest network is configured to allow cross-network traffic.

Why does the printer not see the Main network?
The issue might be due to saved network profiles or interference. The printer may prioritize previously connected networks or fail to detect networks with certain configurations (e.g., hidden SSIDs).

Let's try these steps to Resolve the Issue:

Forget Old Network Settings on the Printer:

  • On your printer’s touchscreen, go to Setup > Network Settings > Wireless Settings.
  • Select Forget Network or similar to clear any saved profiles, including the guest network.

Manually Reconnect to the Main Network:

  • Go to Setup > Network Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Ensure your main network's SSID (name) is not hidden. Enter the network name and password carefully.

Ensure Compatibility with Router Settings:

  • Check your router’s settings to ensure it supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, as many printers don’t work on 5 GHz.
  • If both bands are active, ensure the 2.4 GHz band is enabled and broadcasting the network name.

Reset the Printer's Network Settings:

  • Restore your printer's network settings to default by going to Setup > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults.
  • After the reset, use the Wireless Setup Wizard to reconnect to the main network.

Use HP Smart App or USB Setup (If Manual Setup Fails):

  • Download the HP Smart app on your PC or smartphone. It can help you reconnect the printer to the correct network.
  • Alternatively, connect the printer to your PC via USB temporarily to configure the wireless connection through the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant.

Try updating the firmware. Click here

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
