The test results page  says "Your HP printer is unable to connect to your wireless router. MAC address filtering may be enabled on your wireless router which can prevent your HP printer from connecting to your wireless network during setup."  How can I get this printer connected to my wifi?

Hi @Int21spec,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with connectivity.

If you're having trouble connecting your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium e-All-in-One - N911n to your wireless network and the test results mention MAC address filtering, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check MAC Address Filtering on Your Router:

  • Access Your Router’s Settings:
    • Open a web browser on a device that is connected to your Wi-Fi network.
    • Enter your router’s IP address in the address bar. Common IP addresses for routers include 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. If you don’t know the IP address, you can find it in your router's manual or check the default gateway in your computer's network settings.
    • Log in using the admin username and password (these are usually printed on the router or found in its documentation).
  • Locate MAC Filtering Settings:
    • In the router settings, look for options like Security, MAC Filtering, Access Control, or Wireless Settings.
  • Disable MAC Address Filtering:
    • If MAC Address Filtering is enabled, disable it to allow all devices, including your printer, to connect to the network.
    • If you prefer to keep MAC filtering enabled, you’ll need to add your printer’s MAC address to the allowed list (this can be found on the test page or in the printer settings).

2. Add Printer’s MAC Address to Allowed List (If Keeping Filtering Enabled):

  • Find the printer's MAC address on the Wireless Network Test Results page.
  • In the router’s MAC filtering section, add the printer’s MAC address to the allowed devices list.

3. Reconnect the Printer to Your Wireless Network:

  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Select your network from the list of available networks and enter the correct Wi-Fi password.

4. Restart the Printer and Router:

  • Power Cycle the Printer and Router: Turn off both the printer and the router. Wait for 30 seconds and turn them back on. Once your router is fully powered up, try reconnecting your printer to the network.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @Int21spec,

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Check Wireless Network Settings:

  • Ensure 2.4 GHz Compatibility: Most HP printers, including the Officejet Pro 8600, operate on the 2.4 GHz band. Ensure your router’s 2.4 GHz band is enabled and broadcasting. If your router is set to 5 GHz only, the printer may not connect.
  • Check Password: Double-check that you are entering the correct Wi-Fi password during setup.

6. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Go to the HP Support website and check if there is a firmware update available for your HP Officejet Pro 8600. Updating the firmware may improve wireless connectivity.

7. Reset Printer Network Settings:

  • If all else fails, you can reset the printer’s network settings:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network > Restore Network Defaults.
    • After resetting, run the Wireless Setup Wizard again and try to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi.

8. Manually Assign an IP Address (Optional):

  • Sometimes, assigning a manual IP address can help resolve connectivity issues:
    • In the printer’s Network Settings, find the IP Address options and manually assign an IP address within the range of your router’s IP addresses (e.g., if your router’s IP is 192.168.1.1, assign the printer an IP like 192.168.1.50).

After trying these steps, your printer should be able to connect to your wireless network. If the problem persists, contact your router manufacturer or HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Keep me posted for further assistance
