Hi @BigVirginia,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When a printer suddenly goes offline even though both devices are on the same network, it usually points to a network communication issue or a driver/software setting. Here’s what HP recommends:

Step 1: Confirm Network Status

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s control panel.
  • Check that the printer has a valid IP address and is connected to the same subnet as your Dell desktop.

Step 2: Restart Devices

  • Power cycle your printer, router, and PC.
  • This clears temporary network conflicts.

Step 3: Assign a Static IP

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Network Settings → Advanced Settings → IP Settings.
  • Set a Manual IP (e.g., 192.168.x.xxx) within your router’s range.
  • This prevents the printer from losing its IP after DHCP changes.

Step 4: Update Printer Driver

  • On your Dell desktop, open Devices and Printers.
  • Remove the old printer instance and reinstall using the latest driver from HP: Official HP® Support

Step 5: Check Firewall & Security Software

  • Ensure your firewall or antivirus software isn’t blocking the printer’s IP.
  • Add the printer as an allowed device.

Step 6: Use HP App: HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
