Hi @Cgall1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your iPad is not recognizing your HP Envy 6400 printer, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here are some suggestions.

  • Check Compatibility: Ensure that your HP Envy 6400 printer is compatible with AirPrint, which is the printing protocol used by iOS devices like the iPad. Most modern printers, including the HP Envy series, support AirPrint.
  • Connect to the Same Network: Make sure that both your iPad and the HP Envy 6400 printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. AirPrint requires both devices to be on the same network.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Envy 6400 printer. Visit the HP support website and follow the instructions to update the printer's firmware.
  • Restart Devices: Power cycle both your iPad and the HP Envy 6400 printer. Turn them off, wait for a few seconds, and then turn them back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Enable AirPrint on the Printer: Ensure that AirPrint is enabled on your HP Envy 6400 printer. You can usually find this option in the printer settings. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to enable AirPrint.
  • Check Printer Connection: On your iPad, open the app you want to print from and look for the print option. Make sure the correct printer (HP Envy 6400) is selected. If it's not listed, check if the printer is powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Reinstall Printer on iPad: Go to the iPad settings, select "Printers," and remove the HP Envy 6400 printer if it's listed. Then, try adding it again by selecting the printer from the available options.
  • Update iPad Software: Ensure that your iPad is running the latest iOS version. Sometimes, updating the iPad's software can resolve compatibility issues.
  • Printer Driver: If you are using a third-party app to print, make sure that the app supports your printer model. Some apps may require specific printer drivers.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue of your iPad not recognizing the HP Envy 6400 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
