Hi @MalcolmIA,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how confusing this feels. Your HP DeskJet 2800e scans perfectly, so the printer is clearly alive, yet it refuses to print. Let’s troubleshoot this together and get those pages coming out again.

Why This Happens

This issue often occurs due to:

  • Missing or corrupted print drivers.
  • Printer stuck in offline or error state.
  • Network or USB communication issues.
  • Print queue jams.

Step 1: Check Printer Status

  • On your computer, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Make sure your printer is set as the default and not showing “Offline” or “Paused.”

Step 2: Restart Print Spooler (Windows)

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  2. Find Print Spooler, right-click, and select Restart.

Step 3: Run HP App

Download and run HP’s official diagnostic tool:
👉 HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site
This will automatically detect and fix common printing issues.

Step 4: Reinstall Printer Drivers

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
