Hi @Sam20241,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When your printer displays "Attention Required," it indicates that the printer needs user intervention to address an issue or complete a task. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
1. Check for Common Issues
Paper Jam:
- Inspect for Jammed Paper: Open all accessible areas of the printer, including the input tray, output tray, and rear door. Look for any paper that might be jammed and remove it carefully.
- Clear Jam Error: After clearing any paper jams, close all doors and trays securely and check if the error message disappears.
Low or Empty Ink/Toner:
- Check Ink/Toner Levels: Open the printer’s ink or toner compartment and check the levels. Replace any low or empty cartridges if necessary.
- Reinstall Cartridges: Sometimes, removing and reinserting the cartridges can resolve detection issues.
Door or Tray Issues:
- Ensure All Doors and Trays are Closed: Make sure that all trays and doors are properly closed. An open door or tray can trigger an "Attention Required" message.
2. Check for Printer Messages and Alerts
Review Printer Display:
- Look at the printer’s control panel or display for any specific error messages or alerts that provide more details on what needs attention.
Consult Printer Manual:
- Refer to the printer’s user manual for information on specific error codes or messages. The manual will often provide guidance on resolving common issues.
3. Perform Basic Troubleshooting
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Ensure that all cables (power, USB, network) are securely connected. If using a wireless connection, ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
4. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers
- Visit the HP Support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Follow the instructions to update the firmware.
- Ensure you have the latest drivers installed on your computer. Download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
5. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- This tool can diagnose and fix many common printer issues. Download it from the HP Support website and follow the on-screen instructions
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
