When I turned on my printer, the blue flashing NOT CONNECTED light appeared. I called my ISP first and they had to reboot my router, and I proceeded with the steps to reconnect the printer via the printer display. When I got to the wireless network section, I entered the name but the text box for the PW was not functioning properly and I could not complete the process.

Any help would be appreciated!

@DAG20, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're facing a frustrating issue with your HP OfficeJet 4650, especially with the password input box not working correctly when trying to reconnect to your wireless network. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and hopefully fix the issue:

Check the Printer's Display Screen

Since you're seeing the flashing "NOT CONNECTED" light, it means the printer is trying to connect to the Wi-Fi but is failing.

If the text box for the password isn't functioning properly, try gently tapping the screen to make sure it's responsive.

Power Cycle the Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Wait about 30 seconds to a minute.

Plug the printer back in and turn it on again.

Sometimes, a simple reset like this can fix minor issues with the touchscreen or connection.

Check Your Router

Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is functioning properly.

Confirm that your router is not restricting the connection of new devices (check settings like MAC address filtering or guest network settings).

If possible, use the 2.4 GHz band instead of 5 GHz, as many printers only support 2.4 GHz.

Reattempt Printer Wi-Fi Setup

On the printer display screen, go to the Wireless or Wi-Fi Setup Wizard.

When entering your Wi-Fi network’s password, make sure you're entering it correctly. If the touchscreen issue persists, try using a stylus or gently tapping the screen multiple times to see if it becomes more responsive.

If you can't use the on-screen keyboard, try pressing the Home button, selecting Network, and then Wireless Setup Wizard again.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
