Hi @Bear030,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you need to connect your HP Envy 6400 printer to a different network, and the HP Smart app didn’t work. Let’s go through some alternative ways to do this.

    a. Use the Printer Control Panel (Wireless Setup Wizard)
        • On the printer touchscreen, go to Settings > Wireless > Wireless Setup Wizard.
        • The printer will search for available Wi-Fi networks.
        • Select your new network and enter the Wi-Fi password.
        • Once connected, a confirmation message will appear.

    b. Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) Method
        • Press the WPS button on your router.
        • On the printer, go to Wireless > WPS Push Button and press Start.
        • The printer will connect automatically without needing a password.

    c. Using a USB Cable to Set Up Wi-Fi
        • Temporarily connect the printer to your computer via USB.
        • Open HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant on your computer.
        • Choose Wireless Setup and select your new network.
        • Once connected, you can remove the USB cable.

    d. Verify Connection
        • Print a Wireless Test Report from the printer to confirm it’s on the correct network.
        • Ensure your computer or mobile device is also on the same network for printing.

    e. Restart Devices
        • If connection fails, restart the printer, router, and computer.
        • Retry the Wireless Setup Wizard.

I hope this helps.

My printer does not have a touchscreen and I am unable to do the other 2 options you mentioned.

Hi @Bear030,

I understand your HP Envy 6400 All-in-One printer does not have a touchscreen and you’re unable to connect it to a new Wi-Fi network using the HP Smart app. Let’s go through a few steps to connect your printer easily.

a. Restore Network Settings
    • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel (X) buttons on the printer’s control panel together for 5 seconds.
    • This will reset the wireless settings and enable setup mode for 2 hours.

b. Use the HP Smart App to Reconnect
    • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
    • Click “+” to add a new printer.
    • The app should detect your printer in setup mode.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to select your new Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

c. Connect Using the WPS Method
    • On your router, press the WPS button (usually found on the back or side).
    • Within 2 minutes, press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for 5 seconds until the blue light starts flashing.
    • The printer will automatically connect to your Wi-Fi network.

d. Print a Wireless Network Test Report
    • Press and hold the Information (i) button for 3 seconds to print the report.
    • Verify that the network name (SSID) matches your current Wi-Fi.

e. Restart Devices
    • Restart your printer, router, and computer to refresh the connection.
    • Once restarted, try printing a test page from the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.
