HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdwe Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer is installed on the office network. After installing universal smart driver v4. Printer shows offline in Windows. Installed driver to universal smart driver v3. Still printer shows offline in Windows. Updated firmware on printer. Still same issue. Is there another software HP driver can be used for the printer?

Hi @ang310

Can you check basic connectivity between the printer and the Windows PC before we troubleshoot the print queue?

Can you get the printer's IP address from either the control panel or the printed network configuration report page, from there trying pinging it from the Windows command line, and/or reach the printer's embedded webserver with a browser?  (https://PRINTER_IP_ADDRESS  will need to accept a browser security warning about self signed certificate).

If the printer is reachable from that Windows PC with ping and web browser, then it makes sense to troubleshoot the print queue configuration.  If it's not reachable, let's troubleshoot the network reachability.

Jim,

The printer is reachable and can access the embedded webserver. Also, I printed a configuration page from the HP printer web console.

What would the next steps to troubleshoot the print queue configuration?

Hi @ang310

Ok, that's great that the printer is reachable over the network.  It sounds like you've tried the UPD V3 and V4 driver packages, both with no success.   Would you be willing to try the HP Easy Start installer and let us know if that results in a working queue that isn't stuck offline?  For this printer model, this is the recommended installer, over the discrete V3 and V4 options.

Hello Jim,

We are unable to use the HP Easy Start installer on our client systems. We use a Printer Management application to install the printer onto the clients. We need hp printer driver to upload to our Printer Management app. The printer driver HPOneDriver_v4x64.inf and HPOneDriver_v3.inf doesn't work. By any chance, do you have earlier version driver that I can use to download?

Thanks.

Hi @ang310

Does this printer management application have the ability to configure a Windows print queue to use a TCP/IP type port rather than WSD along side the UPD driver?  That may be worth investigating.

I don't have the ability to directly provide older UPD downloads.  Was a previous version working well holding other variables the same (printer model, PC driver deployment, etc)?  If this was working fine, but the latest driver release broke something, that would be a good clue.

Any other details you can provide about was working before?  Any further details on this printer management application and how it deploys the driver?

I will forward this thread internally to see if any other help is available, but with timezone differences, responses won't be rapid.

Hi Jim,

This is interesting. Our IT dept. installed the same model printer last year at another office. We are using the HP Universal Printing PCL 6 driver on the Printer Management app. We are able to install the printer on the client stations.  I have tried using Universal Printing PCL driver for the printer that we are trouble shooting and issue. It shows printer is offline. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks.
