I’m not a computer person. I have an HP laptop printer sporadically it has printed on my HP Envy 6400 printer.  Mostly, it goes through the motion of printing, but the paper comes out blank

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY Pro 6400 is going through the motions of printing but not actually putting ink on the paper. The issue could be related to the ink cartridges, printhead, or printer settings. Let’s walk through some troubleshooting steps:
 

1. Check Ink Levels

  • Open the HP Smart app on your laptop.
  • Go to Printer Settings and check the ink levels for both the black and color cartridges.
  • If any cartridges are low, replace them with new HP cartridges.

2. Ensure Cartridges Are Installed Correctly

  • Turn the printer off and unplug it.
  • Open the printer and check that the ink cartridges are installed properly and securely.
  • If the cartridges are new, remove them, clean the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth, and reinsert them.

3. Clean the Printhead

  • Open HP Smart on your computer, go to the Tools or Maintenance section, and select Clean Printhead.
  • This process can sometimes resolve blank print issues if the nozzles are clogged.

4. Print a Test Page

  • On the printer's control panel or through the HP Smart app, try printing a test page. This will help determine if the issue is hardware-related or software-related.

5. Reset the Printer

  • Unplug the printer from the power source while it's turned on.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Sometimes a simple reset can resolve these kinds of issues.

6. Software/Driver Issues

  • Ensure that the latest drivers are installed for your printer. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

7. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Use the HP Smart app or go to HP Support to check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer.
