Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

3301fdw
Microsoft Windows 11

I just received my new MFP 3301fdw and am already regretting it. I purchased this printer specifically for the ease of having an ethernet connection option as my other HP wireless printers have been giving me constant issues with randomly deciding when to connect or not connect. I did the set up and both computers in my office were able to find the printer on the local network. However, whenever I try to print from either computer, nothing prints. HP Smart Diagnose & Fix says it cannot find my printer.  When I went through the control panel on the device and printed out the connectivity details, the printer was able to print the pages out without a problem, so it is not the actual printing that isn't working. According to the printout, the printer is connected locally but no internet. I am guessing this is the issue. Is that the problem? If so, how do I connect it to the internet? I just want to be able to print a document from my computer on the printer.

Something is wrong with the network.  Possibly the printer and the PC / smartphone / tablet  are not on the same subnet.

A quick fix is to print directly to the printer using W-Fi but all PCs needs to have Wi-Fi and possibly your 3301fdw cannot use both wired and wireless at the same time.

Make sure that the PC and the printer re on the same subnet.  Get a network status report from the printer.

Follow these steps to print a printer report.
1. On the control panel Home screen, touch Menu.
2. Scroll to Utilities and touch Tools.
3. Touch Reports, and then touch Status Reports.
4. Select a printer report to print and touch Print

The PINs and Passwords should show up. Here is the important stuff from a typical printer report. The password shown in Wi-Fi can be the printers PIN or the modem's password depending on how you connected to the modem. The printer can have two bands but the only one that is connected will show up.

LANSTATUSIP addressSSIDPassword
Wi-Fienabled192.168.1.15ATT-ARRIS-2 .4GuessAgain
Wi-Fi-directenabled192.168.23.1DIRECT-WHATEVERBadGuess
Wireddisabled
USBdisabled

The above printer is on network 192.168.1.15 and your PCs needs to be on 192.168.1 (There are some exceptions)

Find out the PCs network. In windows do the following:

Using the windows command prompt, copy and paste the following into the CMD window

ipconfig | find /i "ipv4"

should look something like the below

If the pc or the printer is on a different subnet then the PC needs to be told how to access the printer

If they are both on the same subnet then possible VPN or a firewall is blocking the printer

let me know what you find out.

Consider using Wi-Fi direct to print directly to the printer but there can be problems if you have multiple Wi-Fi boosters / repeaters.

We have had very bad luck with the wifi direct option on the other printers which is why I got this one so that it can connect directly to the network with the ethernet cord so I want to try and figure it out to make it work with the ethernet option...

I ran both a Network Configuration Report and Connectivity status Report. On the Connectivity Status Report, it lists "Active Default Gateway" which is different than what is showing up on my computer.  How do I change it? Can I change it somewhere within the printer settings? Or do I need to change something on our individual computers?

First want to say I am not a network expert, but have had some experience.

If the printer gets it IP address from the DHCP server in the modem (router) then it will have a host address based on the server and that host address can be found by any PC attached to the modem even if it is in a different subnet below the modem.

My printers host address is NPI40CB07@att.local.net

NPI40B07 is the name assigned by HP when my cm14515 LJ was manufactured. It is unique.  The attlocal.net is the modem network and unique to the modem or router.

At any PC that has access to the printer (ie: the printer works) you can ask for the hostname using nslookup (alternately, see instructions at bottom )

nslookup 192.168.1.120

The hostname NPI40CB07.attlocal.net can be used to access the printer even if the IP address of the printer changes.  It will also work if a PC is on a subnet as the subnet should know where att.local.net is.

In windows 11 use the "add a printer manually" and select the TCP/IP not IPP after clicking next.

Alternately, bring up printers and scanners, find your printer, and edit the existing IP4 address (at "TCP/IP ports") to use the hostname of the printer.

You would not use 192.168.1.120,  you would use the hostname instead.   A printer status page may also provide the hostname instead of using nslookup.

I haven't found the IP4 address anywhere to edit yet... Wondering if there is a way to do a factory reset and just start over...

In Windows, I went into my device settings and in the printer settings, under Events, it shows:

After powering off the printer and restarting the modem, the printer is working finally.... Sorry for wasting your time!
