I have an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M31w. It does not have a touchscreen.
I just purchased a new router from Amazon: eero 6+ mesh and need to reconnect my printer to my new wifi router. Router doesn’t support WPS connection protocol.
On the printer control panel I have held down the wi-fi button for 5 seconds until it starts flashing (as directed by HP ) but the HP smart app still cannot find my printer.
Do I need an additional print driver? Which one and how to load?

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To connect your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M31w to your new eero 6+ mesh router without WPS, you can follow these steps to set up the connection manually:
1. Connect via HP Smart App
- Ensure the Printer is On: Make sure your printer is powered on.
- Use the HP Smart App:
- Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
- If the app does not detect your printer, proceed to the next step.
2. Use the HP Wireless Direct Connection
- Activate Wireless Direct:
- On the printer, press and hold the Wi-Fi button for about 5 seconds until it starts blinking.
- This allows the printer to create its own wireless network.
- Connect Your Device to the Printer:
- On your computer or mobile device, go to Wi-Fi settings and connect to the network that starts with "HP-Print".
- The network name may look something like "HP-PrinterName-XXXX".
- Complete Setup:
- Once connected to the printer's network, open the HP Smart app again.
- Follow the prompts to connect the printer to your home Wi-Fi network.
3. Manually Enter Wi-Fi Credentials
If you’re prompted, you may need to enter your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password.
4. Install Printer Driver (If Needed)
If you still encounter issues, you may need to install the latest printer driver:
- Download the Driver:
- Visit the HP Support website and navigate to the drivers section for your printer model.
- Install the Driver:
- Follow the instructions to download and install the driver on your computer.
5. Reconnect to Your Wi-Fi Network
- Disconnect from Wireless Direct:
- Once the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi, disconnect from the "HP-Print" network.
- Reconnect to Your Home Wi-Fi:
- Ensure your computer or mobile device is connected back to your regular Wi-Fi network.
6. Finalize Setup in HP Smart
- Open the HP Smart app again to finalize the printer setup. Your printer should now be connected to the Wi-Fi network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
