@BettieR, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP printer not accepting the set up!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like there might be an issue with the setup process or network connection. Here’s a checklist to troubleshoot your HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e All-in-One Printer not accepting the setup or printing through Wi-Fi:

Check Wi-Fi Connection:

  • Ensure that both the printer and the computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify the strength and stability of the Wi-Fi signal where the printer is located.

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off your printer and restart it.
  • Restart your router and your computer to refresh network connections.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure the printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates through the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi:

  • Go to the printer’s settings menu and navigate to Network or Wireless Settings.
  • Re-enter the Wi-Fi details to ensure it’s connected to the correct network.

Check Printer's IP Address:

  • Print a network configuration page to confirm the printer’s IP address is valid and matches the one configured on your computer.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Remove and reinstall the printer driver/software on your computer.
  • Use the HP Smart app or HP Easy Start for a smoother setup process.

Check Printer Queue:

  • Check if any print jobs are stuck in the queue. Clear the queue and try printing again.

Network Conflict:

  • If there are multiple devices on the network, try disconnecting others temporarily to see if that helps establish the connection.

Firewall or Antivirus Issues:

  • Disable the firewall or antivirus temporarily to see if it's blocking the printer’s communication over Wi-Fi.

Let me know if any of these help or if you'd like further troubleshooting!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
