HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!

I am facing issues with setting up "Scan to Mail" for the HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw.

I've tried setting up with Office 365 Mailbox, but it failed as well as a 3rd party Hosting service (world4you.com).
In any case, I get a "Connection to SMTP server failed. Try other ports like ....".

I did try both ports 25 and 587 with smtp.office365.com, as descripted by Microsoft themselfs here.

Looking at several pages here on the support forum, I've tried everything:

  • Different ports
  • Direct Send
  • Set different DNS (8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 and HPs own 209.244.0.3/4)
  • Deactivated IPv6

I've checked before, no firmware update available.

My assumption is the printer cannot connect to the internet. But changing DNS does not help either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot!

Ben

Found the issue/fix:
PW field cannot process symbols such as %$_ ... and since my PW contained those, it "couldn't connect".
Now the Scan to Mail is running via SMTP Mail server.

Does the printer have a valid gateway address programmed into the network card? If DNS is correct that is the next logical failure.

Hi Repairatrooper!

Thanks for the hint! The Std. Gateway is correctly set too, pointing to the router at 192.168.68.1.

Tho the text is in German here, I hope it provides some input. Everything seems to be alright in the settings:

I've set to Manual to keep the IP 192.168.68.111, yet before with DHCP and identical DNA and Gateway settings, I still had the same issues.

One thing to add, often with HP you need to reboot for network card settings to apply properly.

Hi!
Also done that, rebooted several times but no change to the SMTP issue.
