After dealing with the installation process I've got the printer properly configured accessible and online, but no way to print, no error, no scan and either no local copy possible. Then I found a post of  fr8tdog , with subject "Printer Offline with Sonoma 14.5" , that says you must fix the @IP of the printer , using manual @IP under network configuration (not DHCP). This works for me, and that was the solution after fighting more than one day on the problem. HP doesn't speak about it and their support is of technical low level (like turn off your printer !!!). This is the reason for which I make this entry, and thank you to original post of fr8tdog on discussion.apple.com.

It is so deplorable, that even the local copy was blocked. So for HP printer (at least for 9730e) fixes the @IP manually. I hope this message will help other MacOS users with HP printers. Best.

Hi @philmas

Thank you for sharing your experience and for taking the time to post this — we really appreciate that you found a working solution for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e Wide Format All-in-One Printer.

Setting a manual (static) IP address instead of using DHCP is indeed a reliable way to maintain a consistent connection between the printer and macOS systems. This prevents IP address changes that can interrupt communication with HP Smart or AirPrint services — and it’s a great tip for other users who may face similar “printer offline” issues.

We understand how frustrating connection problems can be, and we’re sorry to hear that your earlier support experience didn’t meet expectations. Feedback like yours is valuable because it helps us identify areas where we can improve. HP does document this configuration method in several networking guides, but it can sometimes be missed depending on setup steps or router behavior.

For continued reliability, here are a few official recommendations:

  • Keep the printer firmware up to date: HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e Drivers & Firmware

  • Configure the static IP through the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) or via the printer’s touchscreen under Network Settings → Advanced Settings → IP Settings.

  • After assigning the IP, remove and re-add the printer on your Mac to refresh the driver connection.

Thank you again for posting this insight — community contributions like yours help other users resolve similar issues faster, and we’ll make sure this feedback is shared internally with our support teams.
