Hi @mschris,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When the printer is connected to the same network but appears “Unavailable”, it typically means the communication between the computer and the printer is not completing properly, even though the connection exists. Follow the steps below to try to resolve the issue.

Step 1: Wake and Verify Printer Status

Stand near the printer and observe:

  • Ensure the printer is powered ON
  • If the display is idle, press any button to wake it from sleep
  • Listen for a brief internal movement or soft initialization sound

👉 The printer must be in a Ready state, not in sleep or paused mode

Step 2: Check Wireless Connection on Printer

Look closely at the Wireless light (blue):

  • Solid blue → Connected
  • Blinking → Not fully connected

If blinking:

  • Reconnect the printer using HP Smart → Add Printer

Step 3: Restart Printer and Network

This clears network interruptions that cause “Unavailable” status.

  1. Turn OFF the printer
  2. Unplug the power cable from the printer
  3. Restart your Wi‑Fi router
  4. Wait until the router lights become stable
  5. Plug the printer back in and turn it ON

👉 You should hear the printer reinitialize; wait until it becomes idle

Step 4: Check Printer Status on Windows

  1. Open: Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners
  2. Select your HP printer
  3. Click Open print queue

Now verify:

  • Use Printer Offline” is unchecked
  • No paused jobs in the queue

👉 If jobs are stuck, clear the queue completely

Step 5: Re-add the Printer

If “Unavailable” continues:

  1. In Printers & Scanners, remove the HP printer
  2. Restart the computer
  3. Open the HP app
  4. Click + Add Printer
  5. Select your printer and complete the setup

👉 During setup, ensure your system and printer are on the same Wi‑Fi
