HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e All-in-One printer is stuck in Verifying mode.

HP Smart shows the printer status as "Offline".

I looked at a resolution for a 9010e stuck in verifying mode and tried the suggested solutions.

I have tried unplugging it from the wall outlet and the printer for 2 or 3 minutes with no change.

I went into HP Smart and clicked on Printer Settings, but Advanced Settings is grayed out and unavailable.

Everything under Tools is also grayed out and unavailable.

Hi @NemoAronnax,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating it can be when your printer is stuck in a loop, and you can't access any settings. It’s like watching a lifeless machine ignoring your every move 😔. Let’s walk through a calm, clear approach to get your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e moving again.

Step 1: Forced Power Reset

  1. Unplug the printer from the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for 30 seconds, let the system fully discharge.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds while it remains unplugged.
  4. Plug the printer back in, then turn it on again.
This often clears minor firmware or lamp loop issues.

Step 2: Use HP App

On your Windows 11 PC:

  1. Download and run from HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site
  2. Follow the prompts. This tool automatically detects and repairs many printer errors, including offline status, spooler conflicts, and firmware hiccups.

Step 3: Update Printer Firmware

  1. In the HP app (if accessible) or via HP’s support website, check for firmware updates.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Printer Information → Printer Update, or use HP’s driver site for your 8028e.

Firmware issues are a common culprit behind the “Verifying” freeze, especially if updates haven’t completed.

Step 4: Clear the Print Queue

On Windows:

  1. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  2. Select your printer, then click Open print queue.
  3. Cancel all pending jobs.
  4. Restart the Print Spooler service via Services.msc (right-click → Restart).

A stuck print job can trigger the “Verifying” mode loop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
