OfficeJet Pro 8130e doesn't print. Is waiting for printer connection, but wifi looks OK. I have power cycled both printer and laptop, Cycled wifi, but nothing works. HP Smart sees the printer from laptop. and when I run WiFi network test from printer it fails connectivity but everything else passes.

Hi @REC1320
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for hanging in there—when everything looks connected but the printer still won’t cooperate, it can be frustrating.
Since the Wi-Fi network test is failing despite HP Smart detecting the printer, it sounds like the printer might be stuck between networks or confused about which one to use. Let’s walk through a few recommended steps to clear things up:
📶 Step 1: Restore Network Defaults on the Printer
This clears out any saved Wi-Fi profiles that might be causing confusion.
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Defaults.
- Confirm the reset, then wait for the printer to reboot.
📲 Step 2: Reconnect Using HP Smart
- Open the HP Smart app on your laptop.
- Tap Add Printer or Set Up a New Printer.
- Follow the prompts to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
- Make sure your laptop is on the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.
- If prompted, enter the Wi-Fi password carefully—some printers fail to connect if the password is incorrect or if the network has special characters.
🌐 Step 3: Check for Dual Network Conflicts
Some routers broadcast both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands with the same name. The printer may be trying to connect to the wrong one.
- Log in to your router settings and temporarily disable the 5GHz band.
- Reconnect the printer to the 2.4GHz network.
- Once connected and stable, you can re-enable the 5GHz band.
🛠 Step 4: Assign a Manual IP Address
If the printer keeps failing to get an IP from the router:
- On the printer, go to Settings > Network > Advanced Settings > IP Settings > Manual.
- Assign an IP address like 192.168.1.250, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and gateway 192.168.1.1 (adjust based on your router’s range).
- Then try printing again from your laptop.
🧪 Step 5: Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool
- In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
- Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.
You’ve already done a lot of the right things—this is just about nudging the printer back onto the right track. Let me know how far you get with these steps, and I’ll be right here to help with the next move if needed. We’ll get it sorted!
