The label at the back of the OfficeJer Pro 8620 printer does not ship with the PIN printed on it. Yet all HP has to say about it that I should check for the PIN at the back of the label. The alternative is to perform a factory reset and this will result in a full reset of all settings on the printer. Honestly, I though HP was a technology company and could come up with a meaningful solution knowing that they supply printers without a PIN number on the label. As an administrator of my network and equipment, do you honestly expect me to perform a factory reset of the device every time a new administrator takes over and does not have access to the label? Isn;t physical access control enough to allow an authorized administrator to be able to change the PIN through the lousy LCD screen on your device? Someone got paid a lot of money to come up with a problem instead of a solution. Is that the best you;ve got HP?

HI @baskya,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your frustration with the PIN reset process on the OfficeJet Pro 8620. It can be inconvenient to deal with limitations like this, especially in a networked environment. Unfortunately, many HP printers do require that specific PIN for access to certain features, and not having it readily available can be a hassle.
Possible Alternatives to Factory Reset
Here are a few suggestions that might help you avoid a factory reset:
Accessing EWS Without PIN:
- Sometimes, you can access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering its IP address directly in a web browser without needing a PIN. Check if you can manage settings there.
Resetting Only Network Settings:
- Instead of a full factory reset, see if there's an option to reset just the network settings. This can sometimes allow you to regain access without losing all your configurations.
Using HP Smart App:
- If you haven’t tried it yet, use the HP Smart app, which may provide more straightforward access to manage printer settings without needing the PIN.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
