HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 All-in-One Printer

printer (and scanner) works fine over connected network. when trying to print over IP, (wifi from another room- not hardwired) it uses generic protocol and prints multiple pages with random code on them...

Also, HP directs me to firmware update on their page, but after downloading and launching, it finds my printer and tells me there's no firmware update for it... (also- I'm on Sonoma 14.5 but HP doesn't have that as an option)

Hi @pqlior,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your printer that prints random codes.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, uninstall the printer software by following the steps from this link and restart the devices.

D) Install the printer software by clicking on the link again and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day

Thanks. You didn't read my post all the way. My printer works just fine when plugged in/hardwired to my network.

It's when I print from another room through wifi on a VLAN (IP printing on Mac) that it uses generic protocol and just prints jumbled garbage.

Hi @pqlior,

Thank you for sharing the above information.

When was the last time you were able to print from your Mac?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the generic drivers from your device?

Take care and have a great day ahead!

I print from my Mac ALL the time. It works fine when hardwired (just like original post states).

It's just when I print from another room on wifi (set up on VLAN) that it uses generic and prints garbage. (I see it on the list of IP printers, add it, it gets added as IP printer- I put the IP manually, it gets found, protocol is auto-selected as HP redirect- socket, and USE is auto-selected as "generic post script printer")

it NEVER worked and uninstalling/reinstalling does nothing to fix this.

Where are the drivers for generic from HP so I could direct the computer to use those, rather than the non-HP generic...?

Please advise,
