  • Hello. I am using Windows 11 and have HP smart installed.  For the first several weeks of using the 8130e, I had no problems printing wirelessly via my home Wi-Fi network.  A  week ago I started getting notifications that a new firmware update was available.  Being a small business owner I didn't have time to install it and needed to print which I did without any issue.  However last night I finally installed the firmware update and now the printer will not print even though everything seems to be in place.  I've tried troubleshooting and using the diagnosis and fix tool on HP smart and every time it says that there's nothing wrong.  However when I go to print the printer queue shows the print job says that it's successfully printed but then nothing comes through the printer.  I've tried powering down and unplugging both the printer and computer multiple times.  I even uninstalled the printer from HP smart and reinstalled it.  On the hardware printer I disconnected it from the Wi-Fi and reconnected it using the Wi-Fi password and got some conflicting messaging: the setup says that the printer is connected to Wi-Fi with green lights and everything.  However when I print a report directly from the printer it says that it failed in connection.  Every time I restart the printer it says that there is a network connection failure on the hardware screen, but when I check the settings it says it is connected.  Another strange thing that happened is that it said that there are two modems with the same name and is having trouble connecting to the correct one.  However since I'm the one who is set up my Wi-Fi and modem in my home I'm 100% confident that there is only one modem with that specific network name so my guess is that the printer is confused and won't connect. Please help.  I really enjoy this product other than this annoying and disruptive issue.

Hi @DelawareDAN69

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like the firmware update may have caused a network communication issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e

Since you've already tried multiple troubleshooting steps, here are a few additional things to check:

Steps to Fix the Wi-Fi Connection Issue

Forget & Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to SetupNetwork SettingsWi-Fi.
  • Select Forget Network, then reconnect using your Wi-Fi credentials.

Check Router Settings

  • Log into your router’s settings and ensure MAC Address Filtering is disabled.
  • If your printer is detecting two networks with the same name, try renaming your Wi-Fi SSID temporarily to see if the printer connects properly.

Assign a Static IP Address

  • Open HP Smart or your router’s settings and manually assign a static IP to the printer.
  • This prevents the printer from switching between network addresses.

Reset Network Settings on the Printer

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to SetupRestore Network Defaults.
  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi after the reset.

Since your printer is showing conflicting network messages, resetting both the printer’s network settings and router settings might help.

Let me know how it goes—you're handling this issue with great patience! 🚀
