HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Office Jet Pro 8715 is giving a message that features are locked by the person who set up the printer. That was me, and I didn't lock anything. I am trying to connect wirelessly to my home network but can't turn wireless back on or anything else. It will not allow me to access any settings, including restore network settings.

Sure will appreciate ANY help!!  😟

Thanks a bunch, Alwazfoggy

Hi @alwazfoggy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering a message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 printer stating that features are locked by the person who set up the printer, it's possible that some security settings or restrictions were unintentionally enabled during the initial setup. To resolve this issue and regain control of your printer's settings, you can follow these steps.

Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Make sure your printer is connected to your home network using an Ethernet cable.
  • Find the printer's IP address. You can usually do this by printing a network configuration page from the printer. Consult your printer's manual for specific instructions.
  • Open a web browser on a computer or mobile device connected to the same network and enter the printer's IP address in the address bar. Press Enter.

Log into the EWS:

  • In the web browser, you should see the Embedded Web Server for your printer.
  • Click on the "Settings" or "Security" tab (the exact wording may vary depending on your printer's firmware).

Reset Factory Defaults (Optional):

  • If you're unsure about the settings that are causing the issue, you can choose to reset the printer to its factory defaults. This will erase all custom settings, including wireless and security settings.
  • Look for an option like "Restore Factory Defaults" or "Reset to Default Settings" and follow the on-screen prompts.

Unlock Features:

  • If you want to unlock specific features without resetting to factory defaults, navigate through the settings to find any options related to locking or restricting features. You should be able to disable these restrictions.

Reconfigure Wireless Settings:

  • After unlocking the features or resetting to factory defaults (if needed), go to the wireless settings section in the EWS.
  • Reconfigure your wireless settings, including connecting to your home network. Make sure to enter your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password correctly.

Save Changes:

  • After making the necessary changes, save the settings.

Restart the Printer:

  • Power cycle your printer by turning it off and then on again.

Once you've completed these steps, your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 should be able to connect to your home network wirelessly, and the message about locked features should no longer appear.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
