Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My printer is so temperamental. Often says error and won't print and then an hour later comes off the printer. Printed stuff yesterday, fine. Today went to print and it just says error. No reason, no further information. the printer says nothing on it. jobs remain in folder on computer. I cancel them, resend them, error again. Full paper, full ink, no information other than error!!! As the printer itself doesn't indicate an error I turn it off and on again and restart. Same problem again. Disconnect completely. Same problem again. Won't print anything from my phone, any of our computers and now after disconnecting and reconnecting, none of my devices will find it. I have troubleshooted everything. It is 3 months old!!!! I have spent 5 hours trying to print one document and I am about ready to throw it through a window

We did not capture your Operating System / Version --

You might not have told us or the data entry system left out the information.

Perhaps try one and more of the following --

-- Note -- List is not all inclusive but does touch some of the highlights.

==============================

1)  Windows -- Make sure that both Network Discovery and File Sharing are switched ON

2)  Restore the printer to Factory Defaults -- Clean slate and all that.

Next,

3)  Edit / Update the Printer's Network -- assign the printer its own manual / static IP address.

-- Note --

Running on manual / static IP addresses is good advice for any / all of devices connected to your network.  The practice also forces you to better understand how your network is configured and can reduce errors.

-- Network --

  • Ethernet is generally more stable and a better choice if you have the option.
  • If forced to use Wireless, consider router configuration, firmware, location.  Connect with the frequency that is best for the situation and not just because it sounds better.   For example, 5GHz is useless if the printer won't stay connected.

Next,

4)  Load the paper you are using into the appropriate intake Tray.

5)  Update the Tray and Paper settings -- this is important -- The printer cannot "detect" what you want and must be told what to expect.

6)  Install the full driver printer software -- the full driver provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences.  Access to the Printing Preferences benefits not just individual job setup, but also any printing / scanning applications or software you have installed (HP Smart / HP App / Third party editing / photo software).

7)  Check / Update the Printer Properties > Tab Advanced > Driver = the installed HP Driver and not the IPP / Microsoft drivers.  IPP drivers simply lack some of the features most people use.

-- Details / Examples --

======================

1)  Windows -- Network Discovery

Example

Settings

Network & internet

Advanced Network Settings

Advanced sharing settings

Private Network > Network discovery = ON

Checked Set up network connected devices automatically

File and printer sharing = ON

Windows_Network-and-Sharing_Discovery_5Windows_Network-and-Sharing_Discovery_5

======================

2)  Restore Factory Defaults

Factory Defaults pushes the printer back to the beginning.

-- Reminder --

After the restore is completed, it is needful that you recreate all the settings, including those for the network, tray and paper, and any Quick Sets you created.

Depending on your configuration -- and how the Firmware settings are arranged -- Factory settings will trigger a Firmware update.  If it does not, you can manually update the Firmware.

Open your Browser

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section General

Restore Default Settings

Select

Restore Network Settings

OR

Restore All Factory Defaults

======================

3)  Network -- IPv4

-- Notes --

  • It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.
  • If needful and if supported, set the Band Frequency to the frequency you want the printer to use.
  • If you assign a manual / static address on the printer, update your router to reflect the assigned IP address.
  • EWS sections might be locked and require the printer’s PIN number to access.  Find the printer’s default PIN inside the ink cartridge ink cartridge / area, or perhaps on the bottom or back of the printer.  Check your printer’s User Guide first chapter for details – search the document for “ PIN “.

Example – Alternate EWS format (Select newer printers and select Laser Printers)

Open your Browser >

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Primary Ethernet

Check / Adjust Status > IPv4

OR

Check / Adjust IP Config > IPv4

EWS_9135_Network_Primary_Ethernet_Status_IPv4_1EWS_9135_Network_Primary_Ethernet_Status_IPv4_1

OR

Open your Browser >

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Wi-Fi > Section IP Config > IPv4

4)  Load Paper / Load Media

Load the paper / envelopes according to the instructions in the user guide:

User Guide - HP OfficeJet Pro 9130e Series

  Starting on Page 11

  Do not skip Step 6

Next,  Section Change the default paper settings  Page 26

5EWS - Tray and Paper

EWS > HP Document / How-to (InkJet Printers – Basic Information)

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

OR

HP Laser Printers - Using the Printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Alternate EWS format - Select newer InkJet printers and select LaserJet printers

-- Reminder --

If asked enter the printer’s PIN number –

The default PIN might be located on the back or inside the printer (ink access area).

See your printer's user guide for additional information.

Search the guide for “ PIN “

Open your Browser

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure

Next (as available)

Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default options / tray

6Printer Software - Full Driver

Reinstall the full driver printer software

-- Note --

If you do not want / need the added information, Scroll down to Web Pack Installation

Details / How-to / Examples

Check / Apply Windows Updates

  • Check / Install any pending Windows Updates
  • If any updates are applied in Windows Updates, Restart your computer and log in

Next,

Uninstall existing printer software

  • Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
  • If your printer software includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
  • Restart the computer and log in.

Install full driver printer software

  • If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

Web Pack Installation - Open Web Page - Full Driver Printer Software

HP OfficeJet Pro 9130 series EasyStart Printer Setup Software - Offline Use Only

  • Open the Web Page
  • Download, Save, and Install the software.
  • If using a USB cable to connect the printer to your computer, connect the cable when instructed to do so, near the end of the software installation process.
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Short Version Done

HP Universal Scan Software - Optional

Separately -- Supported on this printer and Windows 11

Installation of the HP Universal Scan Software adds an "HP Scan" self-named shortcut icon to the Desktop.

NOTE

If you have installed the full driver printer software,

And

If the HP Scan that is installed is the "new format" (larger GUI and new layout),

Then

In general, you perhaps do not need to install HP Universal Scan -- the version of HP Scan that installs with the software for this printer is a functional match to the HP Universal Software.

That said, if you can't stand it for any reason, the system will tolerate installing both the full driver and the HP Universal Scan software.

HP Universal Scan Software

Printer Model and Operating System version Dependent >>

When the software is installed, HP Universal Scan Software adds a self-named HP Scan software shortcut to the Desktop.

Note

Where supported, HPUSS can be installed as standalone or installed after the full feature / full solution printer software.

Open website  HP Universal Scan Full Feature Software

If needful, choose a different OS > Open all

Find / Download / Save / Install HP Universal Scan – Full Feature Software and Driver Webpack

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.
