Offline, offline, offline. I have tried all instructions. Neither my USB cable nor wireless will allow me to get out of offline. What the ***bleep*** is going on?

I had the same battle when I hooked up my new printer.  I don't know if this will work for you, but this is the 'workaround' I discovered:

First two things:  Turn the printer off, wait, then on.  Better yet, unplug it, wait, then plug it in.   Let it reset.  Also, make sure the printer is listed as your default printer.

Go to:

System Preferences -- Printers & Scanners  -- Open Print Queue -- Settings -- Find printer (Press until it chimes. It takes me normally 2 presses).  It wakes my machine up and I can print without having to walk across the room, pull my machine out, turn the switch off, wait, and turn it on again. (Which often didn't work and I would have to unplug it and plug it in again)

I am not 'tech savvy', so I have no idea why this works for me, but it works every time.  It's a multi-step hassle, but way better than any other option I have found.
