With regularity, my Smart Tank 6001 loses connectivity with the WiFi.  I know my Mac is old, but I have been able to print before.  It's incredibly annoying that I cannot print at will.  I have my printer connected to my Mac with a cable.

Hi @Damon24,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Smart Tank 6001 is losing connectivity with WiFi, and you have it connected to your Mac via a cable. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue and ensure seamless printing:

Troubleshooting Steps

Check Cables and Connections: Ensure that the USB cable connecting your printer to your Mac is securely connected and is free from any damage.

Printer Setup on Mac: Make sure your printer is set up correctly on your Mac.

Follow these steps:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Ensure your HP Smart Tank 6001 appears in the list of printers.
  • If not, add it by clicking on the + button and following the setup instructions.

Printer Drivers: Ensure the drivers for the Smart Tank 6001 are up-to-date:

Printer Queue: Check the printer queue for any stuck print jobs:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Double-click on your printer and see if there are stalled print jobs. If so, try clearing them.

Software Update: Although your Mac is old, ensure it is using the latest OS version it supports, as this might enhance compatibility with newer devices.

Printer Reset: Sometimes resetting your printer can help resolve persistent connectivity issues:

  • Turn off your printer.
  • Unplug the power cord.
  • Wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn the printer on again.

Network Settings: If you prefer using WiFi, ensure the network your printer connects to has stable connectivity. You might also want to ensure that the correct network password is entered.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
